2010 treble winner Cristian Chivu spent seven years inside the club as a player then coached in the youth sector from 2018 until 2024. He now unexpectedly returned to take charge of Inter's main team after coaching at the senior level for just 13 matches at Parma last season.

Monterrey is a big name in the CONCACAF Confederation. They're participating in the Club World Cup thanks to their 2021 triumph in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Just like Inter, they're also led by a new face in the dugout. Domènec Torrent, Pep Guardiola's former assistant at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, took charge of Monterrey's fortunes in May. Inter are the big favorites in this match, but it won't be an easy affair.
Simone Inzaghi, the manager who led Inter until the end of the campaign, created a genuine bond with the locker room, and his decision to leave for Al Hilal won't be easy for the group to digest. The players are demoralized following the big defeat vs. PSG and losing the Italian title to Napoli. Many of the leaders in the team face an uncertain future, so new manager Chivu has a lot on his plate to begin with.
In his 13 games at Parma, which he led to Serie A safety in difficult circumstances, Chivu often chose a cautious approach. I believe he'll do the same against Monterrey given the tough context he's facing with Inter.
