i'm seeing 6.5 mostly although 6 or 7 might be out there. my position on this is the line almost always moves too much when a QB is out. however, i don't like it when the QB change happens mid-week. so, i definitely won't be betting cleveland. might consider the jets at 7 or more. also, missing a game due to mono.
one of my favorite situations is when a new QB comes in mid-week or mid-game and plays like sh*t and the starts the next week and the line adjusts too much. i almost always play that team then. so, hopefully cleveland beats them badly and siemien starts the next week.

CD, and faithful clubdirt members, I am seeing the biggest "over reaction" adjustments from week 1 to 2 in my entire life. We know the books always shade lines from week 1 to 2 cause they know how the public reacts.
But some of these are nuts. Some just plain outrageous.
My theory is that gambling is more popular than ever, it's spreading like wild fire. It's getting legal in many states. Fantasy websites are also now books. The more people sucked into gambling, the more idiots are gambling. Sharp bettors are still only a small % of people.
Some of you guys are much older than me so I would like to know if I know what I'm talking about or just crazy.

"the cardinals won't have any legitimate cornerbacks on the field for several games. i'm not sure their offense will be consistent but the defense should be pretty bad. could be some high scoring games. could be some blowouts." -club dirt-
"Week #2...." -bigred-
"Is there any other team than the Ravens?
Lamaar Jackson might make those corners look like pro bowlers.
GL laying 9.5" -ums-

Low and behold, I just checked the look ahead line from last week, 9.5 on the dot. Yes I am patting myself on the back a little. So now we have a spread of 13!? 4.5 points where no major injuries happened.

Sac Zona gets trampled...40-10.....Murray has good speed...he will
need it....loud as phuck....I like him..hope he doesnt get hurt..
I believe it was Shakespeare who said ...
"Bewareth of the fool who gets drunketh with the spoils of yesterday, and assumeth that such spoils will repeat on every Sunday, particularly when said spoils involveth a QB who sucketh dicketh"

Jets aren't going anywhere, but having blown their opener at home to the Bills, the Jets are now hosting the recently embarrassed Browns, then on to New England off a short week, then, following a bye, at the Eagles, then back home against Dallas and then New England again. This looks like it may get painful very early for Jet fans.

cyrax, i almost never bet the thursday game. my philosophy on that is it seems like every thursday, one team doesn't show up. some teams and coaches just don't know how to handle the short week. the problem is it's hard to figure out which team that will be. as a result, i usually avoid it. i'm not sure i would have bet that one anyway. i like TB but they are obviously inconsistent. they turn the ball over often (like last week), and lose a winnable game. no turnovers last night (although winston tried to throw an int to kuechely), and they win a tough one on the road. very tough team to figure. as for carolina, i think i've been right about them. a good team but until newton shows that he's healthy and playing well, i would stay away. no shame in losing to the rams by 3 but losing to TB at home to go 0-2 is really bad. newton was a mess last night.
shakespeare would have made for a good degenerate gambler.

@ some point down the line one has to wonder if and how it could affect some players and coaches.

Zona's best chance is to fly back before the game...40-10 if they dont..
Someone please contact Covers Team ... obviously Starwink has hacked into Bigred's account, because only a drunk would predict the Shrimp's winning by a score of 40-10, not only once, but said it twice in this thread

Sac, this is an interesting theory, and could be very accurate.
I will say that as someone who has been closely monitoring lines and line movement for 40 years, week 2 has always been the best for taking advantage of over-corrections.
I'm not really sure if it is more prevalent due to more gamblers, but it seems plausible.
The other side of the coin is that often times gamblers look at week 1 results as aberrations, and auto bet into the "over-correction" only to discover that team who was good last year, but sucked in week 1, truly just sucks this year, and they get waxed again in week 2.
It's important to not only know the final scores in week 1, but to have a good understanding of how the 2 teams got to that final score.
Perfect example of an over-reaction is Bigred, who suddenly believes the Shrimp are going to avg 40 points a game and win the SB

I also have a history of bad reads in games involving TB ... but I might be enticed to back the Bucs here for the sole reason of Newton. I watched some tape from last weeks game, and I believe there is still something wrong with his shoulder. His delivery is not the same, nor his accuracy in mid range throws. We don't know about his ability to throw it deep because he didn't attempt any passes over 20 yards. To make that comment in 2019 is almost inconceivable. Something aint right with Fig. Add in that the team no longer calls running plays for him, and his hesitancy to scramble, and all is left is a bottom tier QB that the oddsmakers are still valuing way too high.
I can't back the Panthers with my money until Cam proves me wrong, or the oddsmakers prove me right. For now, Carolina is firmly entrenched in my "play against" or "no play" column
Last night Aikman, while broadcasting the game, repeatedly claimed that there was nothing physically wrong with Newton. "A QB with a bad shoulder can't make that pass" ... "From everyone I have spoken to, Newton has no issues with his shoulder"
Oh really, Troy???
Not sure what Aikman was watching, but saying Newton is healthy is a "Fig"ment of his imagination.

You had that nailed after week 1. The Panthers are treating Fig as a delicate piece of glass which will break if handled improperly. Not by design, but by necessity. I think wearing his great grandma's kerchief to the post game presser was a subtle sign of his current frailty.
