Exactly..\
David Robinson....
Patrick Ewing...
Karl Malone...
Charles Barkley....would control the paint
shot blocking & rebounding is the biggest difference between the two olympic teams
92 dream team is best team of all time....team had "0" flaws

11 out of the 12 players in the 1992 squad are hall of famers
the 5 from 1992 that this years team could not deal with is as follows:
pg....magic johnsom
sg....the goat....michael jordan
sf......charles barkley
pf.....karl malone
c.......robinson or ewing
The starting 5 from the current squad is a hybrid lineup.....they will having guys playing out of position...they are undersized....
And yes...Barkley...Malone and Ewing/Robinson....will conrol the paint.....the boards....
This really is not a toss-up

92 Dream Team won't have an answer to LBJ playing in the paint. He probably cancels out MJ's production.
Durant and Kobe (in his prime) can probably match Larry and Mullen's shooting.
I give an edge to Magic over whichever PG they put on him.

92 Dream Team's Starting 5:
Center: Patrick Ewing
Power Forward: Charles Barkley
Small Forward: Larry Bird
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
Point Guard: Magic Johnson
I'd probably put Kobe on PG, KD on SG, Melo on SF, Bron on PF and probably go with Chandler instead.
Magic is obviously a defensive nightmare for any of Coach K's PGs. I think putting a taller guard on him would do the trick. MJ is obviously unstoppable and Larry's sweet shooting is up there. Melo cancels Larry out. The guy is way waaay effective in international games for some reasons. KD stretches it out and tries to out gun MJ. Bron can pretty much put up with Barkley and pull a one up on him over the offensive end. The Center position is where the 2012 USA Team will suck. Chandler, Love, Griffin won't have a field day against the Admiral, The Mail Man or Ewing. Pippen > Iggy and the 92 team even have the taller Clyde to play wing.
It would probably be a different thing if Howard or say Duncan/KG in their prime plus probably Rose. Then again, the 92 dream team didn't even have Reggie and the Dream.

I remember the 1992 dream team like it was yesterday (last-year)
The fact that Kobe and others have said these guys were @ end of their career - is not true - and can be refuted by two facts........NBA MVPs and NBA Finals appearances post 1992 Olympics
Michael Jordan - clearly in his prime won several NBA MVPs and appeared in finals several years
Scottie Pippen - played w/ MJ - his key sidekick - several NBA Finals Appearances post 1992
Charles Barkley - appeared in NBA Finals after 1992 - won a NBA MVP
Karl Malone - appeared in several NBA Finals - won two NBA MVPs (in jordan era)
David Robinson - appeared in NBA Finals - won NBA MVP
John Stockton - appeared in several NBA Finals - lost to Jordan...all time great with assists and steals
Clyde Drexler - Patrick Ewing --- NBA Finals Appearance --no rings....drexler lost to jordan....ewing one appearance lost to olajuwon....
Chris Mullin was on team to stretch the floor -- but is a hall of famer
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird must be confusing folks....yes they were @ the end of their careers....but those other guys were all in their PRIME....and Magic still had plenty of game left.....All Star MVP that year...and had just made the NBA finals the year before the olympics
I know it is not fair to project Kevin Harden, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Deron Williams, Tyson Chandler, Chris Paul, LBJ, Kobe, Durant, and Carmelo Anthony
Both teams are good on paper -- I saw that 92 team play and it had no weaknesses
As good as the current 12 team is --- they appear to have a size disadvantage

It's very simple. Look at it this way, this year's squad players of K-Love, Griffin, and Chandlers' jobs are to inbound the ball, play a little defense, and rebound. That's pretty much their role.
Can you say those were the roles of Barkley, Malone, and Ewing? Absolutely not.
