Anderson delivers on short rest as Brewers beat Pirates

MILWAUKEE -- Chase Anderson worked 5 1/3 innings and Brett Phillips drove in three runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night at Miller Park.
Anderson (10-3), pitching on three days' rest for the first time in his career, held the Pirates to two runs (one earned) and seven hits and a walk while striking out a pair.
Phillips collected two hits and set a career high with three RBIs in his first start since returning to Milwaukee when rosters expanded Sept. 1.
Tyler Glasnow (2-7), back in the big leagues for the first time in three months, struggled with his command, walking six batters -- one intentionally -- while allowing five runs and four hits with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
Anderson retried his first two batters but Andrew McCutchen blasted his next offering to center for his 25th home run of the season and 200th of his career.
Milwaukee evened things up in the bottom of the inning as Glasnow walked three batters before Hernan Perez cashed in with an RBI single.
Eric Sogard drew a leadoff walk to open the third and Eric Thames followed with a home run to center, giving Milwaukee a 3-1 lead.
Things got worse from there for Glasnow, who walked Perez, gave up a single to Manny Pina and a broken-bat double to Phillips that made it 5-1.
Glasnow intentionally walked Orlando Arcia then gave way to Wade LeBlanc, who retired Anderson to end the inning.
Milwaukee added three more off in the fifth on an RBI double by Pina, a run-scoring single by Phillips and a wild pitch by Pittsburgh's Angel Sanchez.
Pittsburgh added a run in the sixth on an Elias Diaz RBI single, bringing Anderson's night to an end.
NOTES: The Brewers announced that their weekend series with the Marlins has been shifted to Milwaukee because of ongoing recovery efforts in Miami in the wake of Hurricane Irma. ... Milwaukee scratched OF Domingo Santana from the lineup because of soreness in his right trapezius. ... OF Andrew McCutchen became the fourth player in Pirates history to hit 200 home runs. He's hit 21 at Miller Park. ... Pittsburgh C Francisco Cervelli took batting practice Wednesday and said he still hopes to return this season from a left quad injury that's sidelined him since Aug. 25. Cervelli has been limited to 81 games this season because of a concussion and hand injury.
