Canada has assembled a sneaky good roster for the World Baseball Classic and has the second-best odds to advance out of Pool A. But that means not slipping up against a pesky Colombian team. I'm betting Josh Naylor & Co. don't let that happen.

Canada is trying to do something for the first time in six appearances in the World Baseball Classic — advance beyond the pool stage.

The Canadians have a great opportunity to do just that. The WBC odds have them as the second favorite behind Puerto Rico to advance. However, that will require some big wins, including in their tournament-opening matchup against Colombia.

My Colombia vs. Canada predictions and World Baseball Classic best bets break down why Canada takes the first step in achieving that goal in Pool A action on Saturday.

Colombia vs Canada prediction

Colombia vs Canada best bet: Canada moneyline (-210 at DraftKings)

This is arguably the best roster Canada has assembled for the World Baseball Classic.

The Canadian lineup is led by the Naylor brothers, Josh and Bo, and Tyler O’Neill. But there are major leaguers up and down this lineup.

They’ll face Julio Teheran. The right-hander hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2024. Injuries limited him to 26 games between 2020 and 2024, where he had a 6.10 ERA.

Canada counters with Mike Soroka. Another guy limited by injuries, but he’s in camp with the Diamondbacks and faces a Colombian lineup that was shut out against Puerto Rico.

Canada -1.5

Under 9.5

Canada’s other strength in this tournament will be its relief pitching. The Rangers' Cal Quantrill will likely be used out of the pen, but look out for intriguing prospects like Micha Ashman and Eric Cerantola.

Colombia is a light-hitting lineup as long as you contain Harold Ramirez, who had three hits in Colombia’s loss to Puerto Rico. Limit his damage, and this game should trend Under and Canada will have the chance to win by multiple runs.

Josh Naylor star player prop

Josh Naylor best bet: 2+ hits (+160 at DraftKings)

Naylor ended the season with the Mariners strongly, pushing Seattle to re-sign the first baseman. He’s a high-contact, low-strikeout guy, let’s take him to start the WBC with a bang by getting multiple hits.

Colombia vs Canada opening odds

  • Moneyline: Colombia +170 | Canada -210
  • Run line: Colombia +1.5 | Canada -1.5
  • Over/Under: Over 9.5 | Under 9.5
