May was the sixth time in the past 15 months online and retail operators generated at least $80 million in monthly income.
In a month with a heavy dose of the NBA and NHL Playoffs plus MLB action, Ohio continued a 2025 trend of every month’s sports betting handle increasing year-over-year. The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported online and retail sportsbooks took in $741.2 million during the month, a 21% spike from May 2024.
Wagering was down 8.2% from April, but books hauled in $15 million more in May than the previous month.
Retail enjoys a better May
Ohio online sportsbooks accounted for $87.1 million of total revenue and $727.1 million of the amount bet in May. Retail operators generated $1.7 million in profit from a $14.1 million handle, a year after taking a $1.1 million loss in May 2024.
The Buckeye State filled its coffers with $17.6 million, putting its year-to-date tax revenue haul over $77 million.

FanDuel led all Buckeye State mobile sportsbooks in May with a $251.3 million handle and surpassed $30 million in revenue for the third time in 2025, thanks to a 14.3% hold. DraftKings also had a double-digit win rate and finished second with a $225.2 million haul. Profit stayed above $20 million for the fifth time this year.
bet365 was third, with a $68.8 million handle and $6.5 million income, up from the previous month’s $6.3 million. BetMGM also enjoyed a month-over-month profit spike, reaching its best revenue haul in 2025 with $4.5 million.
Fanatics Sportsbook wasn’t far behind in handle, with $41.4 million in bets, but the online operator’s 4.8% hold led to just $2 million in income. Caesars surpassed that haul with a $26.8 million handle. ESPN BET had an even better May, generating $2.9 million in profit from a $25 million handle.
A month after finishing in the red, Prime Sports made over $1 million in revenue from a $5.6 million handle. Hard Rock Bet went over $20 million in wagers but recorded just a 3% hold.
