Ohio's sportsbooks dominated bettors in May with a 12% hold that generated 2025's highest year-to-date monthly revenue.

Key takeaways

  • Ohio sportsbooks produced at least $80 million in income for the sixth time in the last 15 months.
  • May’s handle was up 21% from the same month in 2024.
  • FanDuel and DraftKings enjoy win rates of over 12% in May.

The year's first double-digit win rate in the Buckeye State led to $88.8 million in profits, the biggest monthly haul since Nov. 2024’s $117 million and a 31.7% year-over-year increase. May was the sixth time in the past 15 months online and retail operators generated at least $80 million in monthly income.

In a month with a heavy dose of the NBA and NHL Playoffs plus MLB action, Ohio continued a 2025 trend of every month’s sports betting handle increasing year-over-year. The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported online and retail sportsbooks took in $741.2 million during the month, a 21% spike from May 2024.

Wagering was down 8.2% from April, but books hauled in $15 million more in May than the previous month.

Retail enjoys a better May

Ohio online sportsbooks accounted for $87.1 million of total revenue and $727.1 million of the amount bet in May. Retail operators generated $1.7 million in profit from a $14.1 million handle, a year after taking a $1.1 million loss in May 2024.

The Buckeye State filled its coffers with $17.6 million, putting its year-to-date tax revenue haul over $77 million.

FanDuel led all Buckeye State mobile sportsbooks in May with a $251.3 million handle and surpassed $30 million in revenue for the third time in 2025, thanks to a 14.3% hold. DraftKings also had a double-digit win rate and finished second with a $225.2 million haul. Profit stayed above $20 million for the fifth time this year.

bet365 was third, with a $68.8 million handle and $6.5 million income, up from the previous month’s $6.3 million. BetMGM also enjoyed a month-over-month profit spike, reaching its best revenue haul in 2025 with $4.5 million.
