New York sports betting operators overcame a $48.5-million loss the week after the New York Knicks won the NBA title and actually turned a $2-million profit over the last two periods.
Key Takeaways
- Wagering spiked 38.4% compared to the same week in 2025.
- Online sportsbooks made over $50 million for the first time in over a month.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported that the eight online sportsbooks generated $50.8 million in gross revenue from a $551.3-million handle during the week ending June 21.
The previous week, the Knicks' five-game NBA Finals victory and the U.S. men's national team's win over Paraguay helped hand sportsbooks their first losing week in New York history.
The World Cup has brought the kind of wagering operators were hoping for, as the first full week generated a 38.4% year-over-year increase in handle. Sportsbooks surpassed $50 million in gross revenue for the first time in over a month as draws and losses from a few high-profile international teams helped put money back in their pockets.
A 9.2% weekly hold was the state’s best in June. The big profits came despite the USMNT winning again over Australia as a heavily bet favorite June 19. It wasn’t a great week for the state’s MLB teams, as the Yankees went 3-3 and the Mets were 2-5.
