Michigan's Sports Betting Hold Hits 2026 High in July Despite Dip in Handle

Michigan online sportsbooks generated $30.8 million in adjusted gross receipts from a $355.2 million handle during July, marking a 25.6% year-over-year increase in wagering activity.

The handle was the lowest of the year, while July's AGR ranked third among 2026 monthly totals.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday that the $355.2 million in processed wagers fell 3% from June but remained approximately $72.5 million above July 2025.

AGR was similarly well beyond where they were at this time last year. The $30.8-million figure easily beat July 2025’s $23.9 million by 28.8%.

Sportsbooks benefited from the outcomes produced across the sports world during the month. Their strong 8.7% hold was the highest of the year, beating January's 7.5% and topping the previous month's 5.5%.

Operators paid $2.1 million in online sports betting taxes and fees to the state and $591,247 in wagering taxes and municipal services fees to Detroit.

FanDuel once again led the Michigan sports betting market with a $107-million handle and $11.8 million in AGR. Those marks were up a strong 18.4% and 7.7% year over year, respectively.

DraftKings, also customarily, came in second with a $99-million handle that was up 12.7% YoY. Its $8.1 million in AGR increased by an even more impressive 28.1%.

BetMGM found its way onto the podium with $41.1 million in online betting handle, up 11.4% YoY. However, its $3.4 million in AGR represented a 2.4% decrease from its July 2025 total.

Fanatics continued its strong growth with $35.3 million in handle and $3.4 million in AGR, tying BetMGM for third in Michigan revenue. Those marks were up 22.4% and an enormous 272.2% YoY.

Caesars finally stopped the bleeding after losing a substantial amount of its market share, only dropping 0.7% YoY to a $17.1-million handle. Its $754,521 also represented a 21.8% YoY improvement.

theScore Bet rounded out the top operators, posting an $11.2-million handle (down 0.5% YoY) and $571,500 in AGR (down 44.1% YoY).

iGaming loses spotlight

Michigan’s iGaming market has seen extraordinary growth this year, often stealing the headlines from sports betting operators. 

July was a stronger month for sports betting growth, as online sports betting AGR jumped 52.7% from June and 28.8% year over year. iGaming AGR increased 0.5% month over month and 23.6% year over year to $290.7 million.

iGaming operators paid $61.2 million in state taxes and $13.5 million in wagering taxes and municipal service fees to Detroit. The state has collected more than $3 billion in gaming taxes since its market launched in January 2021.
