Nevada-based online casino operator High Roller Technologies has applied for a license in Ontario’s iGaming market to offer its gaming platform to players in the province.

Key Takeaways

  • High Roller aims to launch casino platform HighRoller.com later this year.
  • Ontario’s iGaming sector generated $2.4 billion in revenue for 2024.
  • High Roller is also planning a launch in the future Alberta iGaming market.

High Roller Technologies runs two casino brands, Fruta and High Roller, and aims to go live with HighRoller.com in the Ontario online casino market sometime in the second half of 2025. The license submission is a milestone in its development, and the company appears bullish about its impact on the sector.

“Once our application is approved, we anticipate that we will have the opportunity to launch our online casino product into the market later this year. Ontario is missing an elegant brand like HighRoller.com. We’re excited to roll out the red carpet for our new customers,” said High Roller CEO Ben Clemes.

High Roller operates its casino platforms in various regulated markets worldwide, offering more than 5,000 games to players. Yet Ontario isn’t the only Canadian iGaming market the group has set its eyes on. Once it goes live, High Roller has expressed interest in joining Alberta’s regulated market, expanding its presence in Canada even more.

New market opportunities

The success of Ontario’s regulated market has encouraged other provinces to consider introducing their own commercial gambling sector, and Alberta appears to be on course to emulate Ontario.

The provincial legislature of Alberta has just approved Bill 48, also known as the iGaming Alberta Act. The bill will now proceed to the formality of Royal Assent.

According to the bill’s proposals, the new sector will be managed by a new agency, the Alberta iGaming Corporation. However, there are still some hurdles to clear before the Alberta online casino market launches in late 2025 or early 2026.

The provincial government has set out a road map that envisages the process of setting up the Corporation proceeding in parallel with drafting regulations with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission. Prolonged consultations with stakeholders, including the thriving Tribal-operated retail casino sector in the province, are also likely.

Ontario experiences continued revenue growth

Launched in 2022 as the first commercially competitive gambling industry in Canada, the iGaming sector in Ontario has demonstrated significant growth. According to iGaming Ontario, the sector recorded revenue of $2.4 billion in its second year of operation and a further $3.2 billion in year three, a 32% year-on-year increase.

In April, iGaming Ontario also revealed that online gaming operators had hit $313.3 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGR), the second-highest since January 2025, when NAGR reached $328.4 million.

As a result, Canada is widely regarded as one of the world's most promising new gambling markets. The imminent launch of commercial iGaming in Alberta is another factor explaining why global operators like High Roller are targeting the country.
