FanDuel announced its new New York office opening in Manhattan's Flatiron District Monday.
Founded in the United Kingdom in 2009, FanDuel has been headquartered in New York City for more than 10 years.
Key takeaways
- Sen. Joseph Addabbo Jr., a responsible gaming champion, attended the grand opening.
- FanDuel just posted its third-best month ever in New York in May.
- The company also has offices in several other states, including California.
The grand opening of FanDuel’s new facility featured an array of guest attendees, including company executives and New York Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. (D-District 15). The sports betting giant left behind its office at 300 Park Avenue South, acquired in 2015.
FanDuel CEO Amy Howe said the unveiling represented the sportsbook's commitment to its American and New York audiences.
“We have over 800 employees who call New York home, and we look forward to continuing our investment in the state as the market leader in online gaming,” Howe said.
Addabbo’s presence was also notable since he’s been involved in a variety of responsible gambling efforts.
As part of different proposals, he’s suggested insurance firms should require problem gambling treatment, the creation of a Problem Gambling Advisory Council, and a variety of in-app safeguards.
He also proposed a bill in January to legalize iGaming in New York, even as the state prepares to license three new retail casino operators before the end of the year.
FanDuel still dominating in New York
As noted by Howe’s comments, FanDuel has the largest presence of any legal book in New York.
The state only just ended a 41-week streak with at least a $400 million handle in the week ending June 15, timing that fits with the arrival of the “dead season” in professional sports.
The New York Gaming Commission confirmed it was the first time since the final week of August 2024 that the state’s sportsbooks failed to reach the milestone. FanDuel ($131.4 million) was just behind DraftKings ($142.6 million) for the seven-day period, though it led all operators with an $803.1 million handle and $108.8 million revenue during May.
The $108.8 million profit represented FanDuel’s third-best month ever in the Empire State. It was also $24.6 million higher than DraftKings’ total thanks to its massive 13.5% hold, while DK was at 10.7%.
California expansion
FanDuel spent $71 million last January to create an office in Beverly Hills, California, according to BNN. The 50,200-square-foot property was sold for about four times the normal rate per square foot for Los Angeles real estate.
Although sports betting is illegal in California, the company runs the TV network TVG from its L.A. studio.
It also has offices in Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Jersey, and Oregon.
