FanDuel announces Gronkowski Super Bowl LVII Kick of Destiny promotion worth $10 million

Rob Gronkowski is a four-time Super Bowl champion, so he's no stranger to high-pressure situations. But he'll be trying to do something he never has before in his NFL career — on a live FanDuel commercial during the big game – make a field goal.

Rob Gronkowski will attempt a 25-yard field goal on live TV sometime during the third quarter of Super Bowl LVII. If he makes it, FanDuel Sportsbook bettors stand to split a share of $10 million in free bets.

With the tagline “Kick of Destiny,” the legal sports betting titan is launching its first Super Bowl commercial, which could result in a share of a $10 million pot to its retail and online sports betting site users.

Or as its banner ad reads, “Gronk kick. You win.”

How to profit from the “Kick of Destiny”

To get a piece of FanDuel’s $10 million bonus pool, bettors must place a pre-game wager of at least five dollars ($5) on any Super Bowl market. The promotional period opened at 10 a.m. ET on January 9,  and runs through the time of the Super Bowl LVII kickoff, estimated to be at 6:20 p.m. ET on February 12, 2023.

But don’t expect to quit your day job if Gronk splits the uprights. Although it will vary depending on the number of participants, the bonus will be modest —  but experienced bettors may ultimately be able to reinvest their bonus into bigger rewards.

“If you place an Eligible Wager, regardless of if your Eligible Wager wins or loses, you will receive Sportsbook Free Bets equal to an amount ranging from Five Dollars ($5) to Twenty Dollars ($20)…if Rob Gronkowski kicks a field goal live during the third quarter of Super Bowl LVII.”

Even if Gronk shanks it, you still might get a payout. Deep in the fine print, the terms and conditions state, “FanDuel reserves the right to payout the Promotion Bonus if the Kick of Destiny is not completed, or the field goal is missed.”

Gronk’s star rises

FanDuel knows that Super Bowls are just more exciting with former tight end Rob Gronkowski. The four-time Super Bowl Champion and five-time Pro-Bowler has several NFL records to his name.

None of them, however, were achieved with his foot.

Since his retirement from the NFL last year, the ever-boisterous Gronkowski has predictably been a magnet for sponsorship deals. FanDuel shrewdly signed him as an exclusive brand partner in December. In addition to his history-making field goal attempt, Gronk will also appear regularly on FanDuel’s TV show “Up & Adams.”

FanDuel is lining up a series of ads to promote the history-making kick. It has already launched the first one, featuring a phone call between Gronk and his agent about the kick. Regardless of Gronk’s feigned trepidation in the ad – and lack of a kicking pedigree – he’s pumped for the event.

Gronk’s only known successful field goal was a 33-yarder, scored back in high school. But he’ll be practicing with the best. Gronkowski’s trainer is three-time All-Pro kicker Adam Vinatieri, who scored 599 career field goals — the most in NFL history. Gronk, however, needs no coaching when it comes to self-confidence.

“I spent my career catching the ball, but I always knew I could kick it and now I’ll do it live in front of football fans everywhere during the Super Bowl,” Gronkowski said. “With $10 million in free FanDuel bets on the line, I’m training every day to give fans something to root for and to watch the ‘Kick of Destiny’ live on national television.”

FanDuel finds more ways to Spread the Love

The “Kick of Destiny” is just one of FanDuel’s group-oriented promotions. FanDuel uniquely understands the powerful buzz created by a crowd rooting for the same outcome or bonus.

That’s been the genius behind FanDuel’s "Spread the Love" campaign. Launched three years ago, FanDuel will continually improve the line on a local team as more customers bet on them. The promotion is usually offered in regions new to legal sports betting, creating opportunities like this one in New York last year.

The New York Knicks were bet so heavily in their home state on the day of the promo, that the spread ballooned to +222.5, a number practically impossible for customers to lose with.
