With 40 horses entered and 30 fences, the Grand National race is no stranger to producing big upsets and shocking results. Upsets of 66/1, 33/1, and 25/1 have been produced in three of the past 10 years.

With Tiger Roll opting to run elsewhere and not go for a third straight victory at this race, Grand National betting will be intriguing for this jam-packed 2021 field.

Here’s a look at the favorites to win the 2021 Grand National along with some Grand National picks and tips for Saturday, April 10.

Favorites to win 2021 Grand National

No. 1 Bristol De Mai (Jockey: D. Jacob) - 28/1

A three-time winner of the Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock, Bristol De Mai looks like he could be a major player. He's hoping for a soft ground on Saturday, and although he may lack the staying power late, he will be involved early.

No. 7 Burrows Saint (P. Mullins) - 9/1

The winner of the Irish National two years ago gets amateur jockey Patrick Mullins, whose prior best finish in the Grand National was 19th on Don Poll in 2019. He's been a popular option among bettors since the Cheltenham Festival last month. Don’t read too much into his most recent effort, as he will be sharper Saturday.

No. 8 Magic of Light (R.M. Power) - 20/1

The runner-up in the Grand National two years ago, finishing second to Tiger Roll. She's only fallen once in her 34 career races and has been very consistent. Give Magic of Light serious consideration.

No. 14 Kimberlite Candy (R. McLernon) - 16/1

Pulled up in the 2019 Grand National, but since then put up two runner-up finishes in the Becher Chase in 2019 and 2020. Stamina is a big asset and he has won a race of over three miles long.

No. 15 Any Second Now (M. P. Walsh) - 11/1

He’s fresh off a victory of more than 10 lengths over two miles in a Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase in his last start. His longest victory came over three miles at the Cheltenham Festival in 2019, so the stamina part of his pedigree is evident. One of a few Irish-trained horses who has had a lot of success here in the past.

No. 23 Potters Corner (J. Tudor) - 22/1

Pulled up in his most recent start but does have two 2021 races under his belt which should help with the fitness edge. He's hoping for a soft surface on Saturday and looking to improve off the addition of blinkers.

No. 26 Discorama (B.J. Cooper) - 16/1

He's placed at the Cheltenham Festival on three separate occasions, has the stamina to go four miles, and although he's been a little camera shy – with only two wins through 18 career races – he can be a major factor here.

No. 28 Cloth Cap (T. Scudamore) - 9/2

Rides a two-race winning streak, with both of those victories versus Class-1 horses. He's shown a lot of speed in those two recent starts and will be involved in the mix early on. As far as distance is concerned, he's put forth a third-place effort in a Scottish National before. Cloth Cap is the one to beat, but the price will be short.

No. 35 Minella Times (R. Blackmore) - 10/1

He's one that could really improve and has looked good racing against full fields in the past. His three most recent efforts have been versus substantially easier competition, but jockey Rachel Blackmore has gotten along well with this gelding with a win and two runner-up finishes in their last three starts.

No. 9 Acapella Bourgeois (D.E. Mullins) - 28/1

Got the better of stablemate Burrows Saint in his most recent effort, giving him weight in the Bobbyjo Chase. He was a third-place finisher in the 2019 Irish National and if he puts forth an effort like his most recent, he will be a major player at a big price.

No. 24 Class Conti (B. Hayes) - 40/1

He's been lightly raced with his most recent victory coming in the summer of 2016, but he's raced well versus some of the top horses in Ireland handicaps. He's placed in the past two Thyestes Chase runs and does have the staying power to hang around.

No. 34 Farclas (D. Foster) - 20/1

Winner of the 2018 Triumph Hurdle, he's been a major player racing over fences the past few years. Staying power is a concern and he may be better-suited racing at a shorter distance. At a big price, however, he's worthy of a much closer look.
