I'm backing Nish to beat Djokovic at 9.2 on betfair.
KNish has a long history of injuries and retirements. He is coming off a minor surgery and is on the record as being "not sure if i even play the 1st round", though now he's saying that he's "close to 100% physically".
He's also coming off two back to back 5 setters and is facing Djokovic, who's probably the best player in the world on hard courts over 5 sets.
Djokovic to win the US open seems to be a foregone conclusions.. But somehow I think the ATP could use a person in the major final, not to mention the sponsors (one of which is Japanese).
So, I'm willing to put small amount of money to test my theory that in pro sports money matters as much as sporting achievements.

I can kinda see where you're going with that theory but do you really think that having a Japanese player in the final will be more profitable to the sport than a Fed joker rematch????? No Fing way... That's the match that will bring the ratings my friend.

Why do you expect a sub par performance? Because they want Nish in the finals??? I think after his match with Murray, he will come out strong and put it away in 3 sets. But not making a play yet. Looking into under 33.5.

You're reasoning is absolutely stupid. It would be borderline stupid if this was prize fighting, where there's actual judges. Do you think the lines people are going to award Kei a 3 sets to 2 decision? What on earth are you going on about?
That said, GL. I would love to see S Kei Nish get it done.

they are going to use remote controlled tennis balls to make sure joker can't retrieve every ball and crush the japanman like we crushed nagasaki and hiroshima

Expansion in Asia is a priority for ATP and WTA. Just take a look where fall league will be playing. There were studies regarding financial consequences of Li Na winning a major. Nish making a final would be at least comparable. And yes, it'll bring more money to ATP directly and to players too (in prizes and appearance fees).
When it comes to TV ratings, my guess in Europe and the US Djo - Fed finals would probably be the biggest draw. In Asia it would be different.
Besides, if Uniqlo (which is a Japanese brand) were able to sign Djo to long term contract, who knows what influence they may have.
Having said that, I do recognized that my play stinks of greed and pure speculation.

No rational reason really.. just a gut feeling.
I do believe there is strong desire on the part of Nish's sponsors (one of which also has a deal with Djo) to see their man succeed. I'm not going to go into conspiracy theory here -)

I think it was Agassi who once said that a top player can tank a match (which he admitted of doing) and the average spectator would not be able to suspect a thing. so, no crooked judges are required.. a few miles off a serve here, a bit of a shorted ball there.. at this level guys can do anything.
Again, Djo most likely to win and I have no proof or evidence to the likelihood of any other outcome. I could try to make a long case about how Djo is vulnerable in hot weather, how Nish takes ball early, how Chang transformed certain aspects of Nish's game etc.. hell, Nish bageled Djo once, on hard. Could even argue that price around 9 present some elusive "value"..
But i'm not going to do it.
I do expect a bad performance from Djo and is putting my money on it.

You're a retard if you think Djokovic will lay down at a semifinal in a grand slam. Djokovic doesnt need any more money, all he wants at this stage in his career is grand slam titles because ultimately, that is how you are graded as a premier tennis player.
Also your theory about ATP wanting to expand in Asia is retarded because they dont need anymore expansion. Don't you know that tennis is the number one sport that asian people watch already.
If Nishikori wins, its because he outplayed Djoker, which can happen given the form Nishikori has been in the last 6 months, not because Djoker gave him that match. However, it's going to be very tough because Djokovic will be focused and ready for this match, he always is when a grand slam title is on the line.

I think Nishikori and Peng Shui both making the semi's is enough for Asian tennis.
Li Na won a major last year too.
The entire world will be cheering for Federer if he makes the final. Americans, Asians, Europeans.
I think Djokovic winning the Open is a foregone conclusion though. Djokovic is -195 to win the tourney right now, and he hasn't even played Nishikori yet. It doesn't add up. I wouldn't even expect him to be -195 in the finals vs. Federer. Something tells me the old man is in trouble tomorrow.
I can't see him losing to Cilic though. Cilic is a good player, but he's never been elite status before.

I know as a fan I want to see Fed and Djoker go at it one more time... The Wimbledon final was one of the most entertaining sporting events of the year, plus I'm a huge Fed fan and the clock is ticking on his ability to play elite tennis. Deep down I truly believe that both of them want to play each other. Biggest stage, biggest matchup, etc...
Nishikori's run has been unbelievable, but I think we get the match we all want to see come Monday

I remember a few years ago Cilic was most often compared to Del Potro. Since then they seemed to follow different carrier trajectories, but I must say that after suspension and getting Ivanisevic on his his team Cilic seems to improve in many areas - his serve is bigger now, lower toss seems to make it more reliable too, his FH is less of a liability now.
True, he is not an "elite" player by any means (not even a second tier, like ATP top 4-10), but Del Po was also a huge dog against Fed in his final.
Neither of top 2 impressed me so far and in a single match anything can happen.

Good job! Have you seen my thread? I picked the right numbers, but the wrong player. lol. Would've resulted in a bigger payout if I took Nish!
I'd say 4 sets would be the most logical outcome, yes. So, your play was solid (though games total hedge would be prudent).. Bad luck, that's all. Happens to everybody in this biz.
From what I can tell, tennis is not a top priority for Djo this year. Family is. And from financial perspective, Nish is the one that's best for business.
I can only suggest watching a 3rd set TB to people who disagree - just pay attention to Djo serving and shot selection.

True. Dude seemed tired, head wasn't in the match. He didn't sell the game, but he wasn't truly in it as well. Typical Gringo, am I right?
