That was a pretty crappy day. Still getting my head around how each of my plays lost. BEL-RUS in the 87th minute (After two clear freekicks were not awarded to Russia and Hazard runs down the left) and the other in the last 30 seconds or so. How was there 5 minutes additional time in the US game and why do teams which are clearly outperforming the other switch to defensive/panic mode and then lose.

Suarez
and Cavani were terrible today. Suarez, simply is not Fit and played like he had eaten 10 sausages before the match. Somehow as always URU pull a much
needed win from their behinds. How they always do it in these big
matches is indeed a mystery, but you have to admire them.

I believe Colombia aren't playing three or more of there
regular players including their captain Yepes (who I think is useless
anyway). It looks at this stage Colombia will finish first of this group
and play Uruguay. I am certain
Colombia would prefer to play Costa Rica, but unfortunately that is
highly improbable unless Colombia loses by a large margin and Ivory
Coast win by a huge margin. Suarez may be doubtful for the next game if he indeed bite/headbut the Italian defender. Can only hope that is the case if you are a Colombian supporter. I do not see the Colombian defence withstanding the Suarez threat even though he is about 70% fit.
I like Colombia to win today if they
can keep Japan from scoring in the first 30 minutes. Japan always come
out firing, but finish sluggishly in this climate. I think Colombia win along the likes of
3-1 today. Good luck.

Thanks Franz. I was confident as I mentioned in your thread that Colombia would get through this group comfortably. I think they have a reasonable chance against Uruguay too even better without Suarez. Defence is still a problem, however. I'm still shaking my head at Rodriguez's performance second half. That was special. I can see why Monaco paid over 40 million for him.

France plays against a poor Ecuador team with 10 men for forty minutes and can't put the ball in back of net. Not one through ball to a man in space against a team needing a win. Benzimar had at least 5 clear shots of goal - all straight to keeper Giroud had one of the easiest headers you could ask for..straight to keeper. Don't forget the countless other opportunities which France gave to the keeper.
One of the worst team performances by a 'supposed' football powerhouse I can remember seeing.

Some thoughts about Round 16 in particular Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.
Colombia
Colombia's price hasn't come in as much as I thought, which is
interesting. I'm on Colombia and just about every capper here as well,
but the price hasn't come in as much as I thought. Problem for Colombia
is their defence. It really hasn't been tested by out and out quality.
Colombia's Captain Yepes is probably one of the worst defenders I have
seen at International level. Politics my friend (and probably more
crappy stuff not worth mentioning), keep a few languishing tards in this
Colombian side. But, I'm nearly all in on Colombia my adopted country.. God
bless them.
If they make it to the next round, it will be history my
friends and all Colombians (and I don't just mean like 50%) will be
tuned in tomorrow to what is arguably the biggest sporting event of their country's history.
Brazil / Argentina
It will be basically a home game for the rest of the
tournament for both teams aformentioned (except of course if they meet each other) . Both teams have
historically kicked arse in the World Cup especially Brazil. And Messi
is near top of his form. Di Mario, Higuain are starting to feel more themselves. Aguero is out. When it gets down to nuts and bolts, I
would advise against fading Brazil and Argentina. I would be amazed if
either of them lost in the next 2 days. Stranger things have happened
but not many. Still if both teams don't win comfortably in normal time by at least 1
goal I'd be quite perplexed.
I know its square, but it just is
what it is. I watched many Chile games in the South American elimination
campaign for the World Cup and I assure you Brazil will more than match
what they have to give tomorrow. Australia should have scored 2 goals
comfortably early in the second half against this squad. If that doesn't
tell you how Brazil can hit hard and with the whole country screaming
for em, nothing will.
For us Football nuts out there Last sixteen is our heaven.

Some think Colombia will be stronger with Defender/Captain Yepes back in side. I assure you they won't.
You think by resting Yepes Colombia is stronger? Look what they did
without him against Japan!! And also what they did in the eliminations of Sth America without him. Yepes is the worst defender in International
football I have seen. He has been switched around countless clubs in the
Italian league because nobody wants him. He has already made major
mistakes at this tourney. The only reason he is playing is probably for dubious
political or family association reasons. He is a deficit to Colombia.
Mark my words.

The way I see it . I think the fix is in for a South American team to win it or at least be in the final. We will see how the Refs deal with the games .

Well it was long predicted that Sth American teams would be prevalent in this Competition. The fix I don't get since the South American teams have played a lot better. Is it because of the Uruguay win you say fix? The referee gave a correct red card and didn't see the Suarez incident because it was off the ball. Even if he did he would have to be a super human to realise it was a bite. The Italian should have stayed on his feet the minute it happened and protested rather than go down. Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile have well deserved there place in the last 16. The World Cup is in Sth America, why would you not think it was likely a Sth American team be successful?
