Judge Andrew Napolitano, a libertarians libertarian, speaks of Lincoln as someone who shouldn't be as lauded as he is. He says the way we Americans are raised we are taught that Lincoln is treated as the second coming (paraphrasing) and he shouldn't be.
Some of the examples mentioned in this clip has been brought up by Rick before.
I'm personally torn. He kept the country together (which I applaud him for doing) but did he have to do some of the things he did?

Just watched Mystery Files: Abraham Lincoln (Smithsonian Channel)
"Take an honest look at Honest Abe as Lincoln scholars strip away the saintly image of our 16th president. Abraham Lincoln's now legendary status obscures his true personality, but archival documents now reveal his road to presidency was not as humble as we once believed. And the man the exposed is one who despised his upbringing, taunted his rivals, and nearly poisoned himself as he battled depression."
Excellent show. Not your standard Lincoln is a God or just the same list of facts you find in every middle school history textbook...

I posted a video about someone's take on Lincoln. Besides mentioning FOX News you snuck in g-a-y marriage and 9/11 but nothing about the subject matter itself.

A person is never as good or as bad as media portrayed so it shouldn't come in a surprise to anyone. Besides, what was acceptable behavior back then is often completely different with today's standard.....

Yeah it is funny how we put any politician on a pedestal, that is a big mistake..and that includes the slave owner founding fathers with all their flaws.
Politics is and will always be dirty, there was dirt then and dirt now.
I consider most all people the same, I do not revere any one person because of position, money, title etc...

It all depends on what side of history people believe. The idea that slavery was dying is a myth from my P.O.V. It all depends on which historians you believe. If you ask southern sympathizers.
The south was just a humble easy going land that was slowly evolving with the rest of society. If you ask lincoln supporters. The south was a primitive land filled with savages with NO decency, NO law and order and NO signs of humanity.
It's like asking the white man about native americans. Ask a native american indian about their history and you're going to get an entirely different perspective. Some look at lincoln as a tyrant. I look at him as a honorable man of decency, civility, law and order.
Some people believe the south was wrongly targeted and lincoln fought an unnecessary war. Some are disgusted by the tactics that were used by northern soldiers. I believe it takes a wolf to kill a wolf.
I believe the south was filled with disgusting savages and controlled by savages that needed to be ruthlessly exterminated in order for the US and the world to progress. The country we see today is the result of lincoln's actions.
I don't consider southerners americans because they seceded from the united states. I considered them savage treasonous enemies of the state.
Lincoln is my favorite president because he had the mentality of a bad a$$, honorable, hard-nosed soldier that stared adversity in the face and knew sometimes you have to do a few "wrongs" and break a few "rules" ... in order to make a right.

When he was an Illinois attorney, Abe represented a poor widow who was suing the president of the local bank and asking for $5 in damages. The bank president, a pillar of his community, is alleged to have visited Lincoln’s office and, in the presence of Lincoln’s partner, offered Abe a bribe to throw the case. Lincoln is reported to have said, “No, the lady deserves her day in court.”
The banker responded that it would be humiliating if he lost to this widow, so he raised his bribe to $25. Lincoln refused. “$50,” said the banker. Abe refused again. The banker stood up, started reaching for his wallet and said, “Mr. Lincoln, you drive a hard bargain. I’ll give you $100 cash right now.” Abe jumped up, physically grabbed the banker and threw him out the door, pitching him into the mud outside.
Lincoln’s partner was astonished. “Abe, he tried to bribe you three times and you didn’t mind. Then the forth time you just seem to blow up,” he said. Abe responded, “He was getting too close to my price.”

I don't believe in the idea that savages have laws that protect them. I don't believe in the idea that savages have rights.
You guys remind me of those liberals who believe terrorists deserve the right to a trail that are found on the battle field.
I believe they deserve to be shot in the back of the head and thrown in a hole. You lost the right to be treated as a human once you choose to be a savage that endorses or practices savagery.

Especially if you are a proponent that there are "savages" or lower life forms among us. Or simple people deserve to be killed brutally. That justification has fueled many wars and many agendas throughout history.
It makes them very easy to kill to dehumanize them like that.
It also makes it very easy to extend the "ends justify the means".
The idea that "savages" do not have rights is pretty apt. Reminds me of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and the justification for slavery in the first place.
Very interesting, especially the wording you chose.
