SF and Why

Gotta love playoff type football in the last week of the regular season- let's look at some numbers:

    Sea  16 8 3 12 1 18

-1  SF  22 4 6 25 6 17

Sf opened as 1 pt fav and it has switched to -2.5 for Sea (madduxsports.com)  .     Sea is better in rushing off at 16 vs 22;  Def rushing at 3 vs 6;  Def passing at 12 vs 25;  Sagarin rank at 1 vs 6.   Sf is better in Passing off at 4 vs 8 and Sched strength at 17 vs 18.    

On paper Sea looks like the team to take with it's Sagarin rank and powerful def in both rushing and passing.   Thus the line jumping to -2.5 for Sea makes sense.    When you look at history with an opening line of -1 for the home team and similar situations - what does history it tell us - take the home team and often the under hits.

The game where it was similar with line movement was when Minn and Pitt played in Ireland - the line opened at -1 for pitt and then switched to Minn -2.5 but pitt won the game 21-24.   The games where the teams played at a home venue had scores like 16-14, 10-17.
