Is the Sea D that good?

Looking at the 2nd 1/2 of the season, the Sea D did a great job against SF, shutting them down in week 18 AND in the Div Round. Darnold did nothing in those games as the running game and D were enough to win those 2 games.  Check out these other games though...

NFC Champ Game - Stafford 374/3TDS, team has 479 of offense and score 27 points

week 17 vs Car - B Young is bottom tier QB, Car has losing record, 6th worst scoring off in league

week 16 vs Rams - Stafford 457/3TDS, Rams 581 total yards of off and score 37!!!

week 15 vs Colts - 44yo Rivers makes his return and is only sacked 1 time. 220 yards of off and almost pulled off upset, team has losing record

week 14 vs Falcons - back up QB Kirk Cousins, team has losing record, 9th worst scoring off

Week 13 vs Vikings - Rookie Max Brosmer 1st start ever, 7th worst scoring off

Week 12 vs Titans - Rookie QB Ward throws for 256/1TD & 1 RushTD and Titans(2nd worst team in NFL, 3rd worst points/game) lose by 6 putting up 24 points!!!

Week 11 vs Rams - Stafford goes for 130/2TDS and Rams win - good defensive effort by Sea here but Rams win game 21-19. 

Week 10 vs Cardinals - Brissett 258/2TDS team has 335 total yards of off, 3 win team, 10th worst scoring off

Week 9 vs Commanders - Sea dominates this game but Wash is 11th worst scoring off

So Sea had multiple games against back up QB's, rookie QB's, a 44yo QB playing for 1st time in years and multiple games against some of the worst offenses in the league.  If everyone is going to bring up the fact that the Patriots had an easy schedule, I think it's only fair to point out that SEA had a fairly easy 2nd 1/2 against weak offenses other than the Rams(who went nuts on offense) and SF(who they bottled up, respect).  

Patriots just played games against the other best Defenses in the league in LA Chargers, Hou and Den. All 3 of these teams gave up LESS yardage in the regular season than Sea too. I'll play the over 45.5 and hope for some fireworks on offense!

Okay now show who New England has gone up against   Hard to play an under for personally but I can see the over hitting . Just depends how aggressive both teams come out in the first half . If it’s a feel out process 1st quarter I believe it’ll go harder 

I feel like the Sea/Rams matchups are a more likely scenario for Pats/Hawks SB.  Pats and Sea both avg 28PPG on off in the regular season.  Pats games in the playoffs were a 2nd half blizzard in Den, and 2 cold wintery games vs Hou & Chargers. Now indoors with no weather impacts...could be an offensive battle just like the Sea/Rams last 2 games. Watch both defenses play lights out though and final score is some shit like 13-10. 

To emphasize my original post though, I agree the Pats had an easy schedule, I'm not debating that.  I'm just stating the fact that Sea didn't play any good offenses since week 9 except for the Rams(who had offensive explosions in both games) and the 9'ers who the Seahawks did play very good def against.  Other than that, they weren't challenged by any of the good offenses, yet they get praised as some amazing feat of defensive prowess.  

I see it the same way.

I swear, only the ones backing New England write up lengthy reasons why New England is the side.  Think long think wrong.

 Pats have played the best defenses in the league by beating Denver, Chicago, Houston, Baltimore and Chargers. Now I do believe 3 out of these 5 teams had a better offense then Seattle. They just didn't show up for Pats defense shut them down. Everyone is stating, Seattle beat the Rams and SF. So what, a few bottom tier team have beat them also including Seattle. Everyone is saying that Pats have played no one. In my eyes, those teams I mentioned above could beat Seattle on any given day. This is why I dont get caught up in all the BS talk and make my own decisions on the game and doing my own research. Has it ever dawned on you, why is the whole world on Seattle the moment they beat SF, who was seriously injured and the Rams. Just my thoughts 

Each game is it's own.

You have to understand that the Seahawks defense is a true cover 2 zone. 

They stop the run with 7, or 6, better than anyone. Using a light box 54.4% of the time. They stop the run with the d line and linebackers. 

This allows them to run the kind of defense that they do. They play the long game in a sense. They'll give up yards between the 20's but lock down in the redzone. And by being so good against the run, it makes opposing offenses 1 dimensional. And when an offense puts the ball in the air more frequently than they run the ball, bad things will eventually happen.

I watched the Bears during the Lovie Smith era for it's entirety. That Tampa 2 drove me nuts as the "Tampa 2" does have holes in the zone. Chunk yards were gained against it. The hash marks to Tight ends or slot receivers seem to always be open.

But when this defense is effectively used, teams do not hit explosive plays. Teams must be super sharp and not make mistakes. That's a hard ask for a full 4 quarters.

There's a reason why the Hawks defense was #1 in epa per play allowed. #1 in points per drive allowed. #4 in explosive play rate allowed. #3 in down conversion rate allowed. 

The Seahawks were the top defense against both the run and the pass by DVOA.

I think I'd say that they are a good defense.

 Yes, Seattle’s defense is very good.  
I would not look at just numbers like total yards and points.  The overall efficiency numbers say they are a very good defense. 
You can make a case that Stafford was going to get numbers.  He was the MVP for a reason.  You could make a case that they could very easily have been in these last two SBs. 
Arizona was a decent offense and Atlanta was much better with Cousins and would have made the playoffs if they had gone to him earlier in the season.  
But if you just look at something like EPA/Play — then I am not sure what good defense played better offenses this year.  
Maybe Minnesota because they had to play Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit each twice.  
But no one is saying that Minnesota had a better defense this year than Seattle.  
But San Francisco, Rams thrice, Arizona twice. Then Atlanta and Carolina on the road. 
Pittsburgh had a positive EPA.  Even Tampa Bay early in the season was doing well.  Houston was decent on offense.  Jacksonville had a good offense.  

I am just not sure how you do not think that is not a good enough resume to judge their defense.  They only have a limited amount of games outside of their division they could play.  
It is not like they get to choose the best offenses to play just to show how good their defense was.  

I am not saying this is good enough to say they win.  New England is a good team as well.  
But, I think Seattle’s defense is very good.

Well yea, they can't be perfect all the time. It was a divisional foe and 3rd game facing them. 5.2 yards a pop, but didn't have a rushing td.

Like I said, each game is it's own. There's always a game within the game.

We'll see how Josh McDaniels and the Pats attack them on Sunday.

Seahawks -4.5 the total is the gamble!  I could see it go either way!

One of my persistent thoughts concerning the Patriots, is the 'matchup luck' they had in facing the Texans when Stroud had a mental and emotional breakdown. Yeah, he was under tremendous pressure but 4 picks the first half? CJ acted like a guy who had never seen a football before. 

Then the fates favored the Patriots again by facing a rusty Broncos' backup, their veteran coach who didn't see the wisdom of kicking the FG for a 10 point lead, and then Mutha nature tossed down a blizzard with high winds and snow that kicked down the door. 

Then again, with that kind of luck, maybe the Patriots are a team of destiny?

It’s not that if the Seattle defense is that good, it’s the way they mature throughout the game. They stay patient and watch closely to how the opposing team plays/performs. Then 2H comes around and make stronger adjustments to what could be corrected, they are calm and confident in themselves not focusing on their opponents but their opportunities as they read the offense. Ultimately Mike M. is a freak at adjusting during games and that is scary to me be unless Maye has protection for every single snap come Sunday it will be pretty tough for an inexperienced QB.
