@MIZARD
This is the correct answer. It seems like every single big play, once it breaks out, flags rain down. At this point, anyone that watches regularly will know when a play is coming back before the announcers call out the flag or the yellow icon pops up. The integrity of the game is in the toilet at this point. College is what I enjoy now, and I never used to follow college at all.

So true. I said it tonight. This product this year isn't good. Can't make a big play without a penalty.
Back to back penalties to often, outside of Detroit, Miami & Dallas (largely because they beat up on trash), who is a pleasure to watch on offense (even KC isn't entertaining this year)? It's like we turned the clock back to 1975.
Watching the Jets on offense is comparable to a root canal if you bet on them. Giants are pitiful, Pittsburgh, please and that team is 6-3.
That right there tells you somethings just not right, Steelers have playmakers and can't make any plays, -28 pts scoring differential and are 3 games over .500.
I thought we might be in for a treat tonight. 7-3 quickly and then the Sominex kicked in. Andrews hurt on first possession, looked like Lamar had a problem and Burrow is out as well. Not to be.

A lot of the "player safety" rules have hurt the viewing experience for me personally while at the same time players are getting hurt more than ever...so the new rules are not even having the "desired" effect. I put desired in quotes because the NFL really doesn't give a damn about "player safety", but just abuse the physical nature of the game to keep offenses moving the ball downfield to increase TD opportunities so that doofus on RedZone can fangirl over every touchdown.
To me, part of the "sport" aspect has been marginalized by the "safety" rules where teams are gifted 1st downs simply because a defender made a football play and by dumb luck violated one of these rules. A QB was hit "too low", next time it's "too high", then a QB gets hit in the mid-section but the defender is still flagged for "driving him into the ground"....we see these calls way too many times and know it's BS, but nobody involved with the product (players, media, owners) say nearly enough about it...but they're all on the gravy train and nobody wants to question anything, let alone have it stop.
"Helmet to Helmet" and "Defenseless Receiver" are 2 more of the mindless penalty rules NFL brass has come up with. I could go on and on about both, but the most obvious criticism of the "Helmet Rule" is that Running-Backs are by far the most frequent offender of this rule, yet it's never called against them. Again, the NFL uses the appearance of "player safety" to drum up scoring opportunities.
The things offensive players get away with nowadays are ridiculous and defenses are so hamstrung. The best play in football is an under-thrown deep pass into good coverage while the WR flails his arms after he runs into the DB...it's akin to James Harden driving into the lane and flailing his arms and throwing his head back trying to draw 2 FT's. The NBA put a stop to that, and the NFL needs to stop rewarding poor pass attempts in good pass coverage.

Seriously though, what is a xe/xem?

not for me. i still enjoy it a lot and now we can watch multiple games at once. have better access to stats and info.
the downside for me is the lack of quality QB and QB development by some teams, which makes a big difference when
injuries occur.
there are some very exciting and watchable teams out there. Miami, SF, Dallas, Philly, KC, Detroit, Balt, LAC, Hou, Cin, etc.
the problem is some teams are led by old owners who hire the wrong coaches (think Arthur Smith and McDaniels and other guys who seem to fail upwards in life) because of bad reasons.....

Hurts, Mahomes, Tua, Burrow, LJ, Josh Allen (when he's not turning it over these past few weeks) are all very good and in good systems for their abilities

They phucked up the game with all the rule changes -- You have to have a good QB to win SB and there are only 6-7 teams that have that Lose your QB and it is all over as we see with Cincy this week.
They killed the whole spirit of Football when they made it a QB/WR game. The game of football should be alll about who wins the battle at the Line of Scrimmage

the game is not boring. if it was, we wouldn't be here. we'd be on baseball or basketball or soccer forums, which get a tiny fraction of the action the NFL does.. far less people were watching the last world series games than whatever Monday night football game was on that week..
complaining about today's game is like walking onto a 200k membership golf course and complaining that the beers aren't cold enough and there isn't enough meat on the sandwiches..
go back and watch a game from 20+ years ago. it is not more exciting. we only remember the historic games. most of them were "boring"..
that is my opinion..

"All the older qbs have retired and it’s time for new blood. Will take a couple of years"..
people say this every year, like there's some magical pivot point where a bunch of dudes suddenly replace Montana and Manning and Brady and Unitas and Staubach and Bart Starr in everyone's imagination..
all the best QBs in the league right now will be legends, similar to those guys, but we just don't know it yet. we have to mythologize the past because the present is too boring for us..
there is something about human psychology not accepting the torrential reality of the present..
