MLB 2009: 0-0, +0.00
UNITS
Well it's my favorite time of year, Opening Day in the MLB and I'm looking
forward to another exciting season. I appreciate the many compliments I have
read lately and want to start at with a little housekeeping.
First off, as far as baseball handicappers go, let me make it clear that I
am not the flavor of the day for anyone needing a quick fix and who is desperate
to make back some money that he or she lost elsewhere. My approach to baseball
is a methodical strategy and if you read the story of the tortoise and a hare as
a kid, I am the Baseball Tortoise. I plod along, using a disciplined strategy as
I would define the word "discipline" (some would not consider betting 1000-1200
games a year as disciplined) and I try over the course of the season to average
between +105 and +110 on my wagers. Over time, it has allowed me to net some
healthy profits the past seasons at Covers and in my betting career.
The past two seasons I have won +140 units and +70 units averaging less
than 1.5 units per game, but I will be the first to admit it, those numbers
assure me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, in this upcoming season. While I have confidence,
I do not guarantee I will have a winning season. Just like teams in professional
sports that have a good run over a few year period, I can absolutely have a
losing season.
Over the next six months, there will definitely be peaks and valleys; cold
streaks and hot streaks. The key is not getting too high during a hot period or
too frustrated or on tilt during a cold streak. During the past two seasons, I
have had hot streaks where I have won +50 units in a month and cold streaks
where I have dropped -30 units in a month.

philosophies, you can click here:
I am a pure "Value" handicapper. While I have done well the last two
seasons, it doesn't mean my opinion is right and I can assure you I will be
wrong close to 500 times this season. I respect everyone else's well thought out
opinions on games and if you like the other side of one of my games and want to
tell me why, your opinion is always welcome in my threads. I also learn a lot
from other people on Covers and I am always more than happy for someone to show
me the light with some reasoning I may not have thought about.
I play at Matchbook and I post the exact line I play. I cannot post my
games the second I play them, as a I typically won't post my games until I get
most or all of my games accepted. That typically takes me between 15-30 minutes
from when I start playing them. If you play elsewhere, I am not posting lines
that you will easily get and I honestly have no interest in hearing any whining
about the lines I post, especially if you are playing with 10 and 20 cent lines.
If you play with such lines, that is your problem and not mine.
This is a hobby for me and not a full time job. I have no time set that I
will post everyday. It's more a matter of what is going on with other more
important things in my life and I can assure you that nothing comes before my
family and children. I generally will post before 12 noon but there are
occasions when I may be delayed. In addition, there are occasions when I may add
a game or two later in the day but it is never less than 30 minutes before a
game starts. I WILL NOT DO WRITEUPS EVERYDAY and can only do so when time
permits. On average I will do writeups 2-3 times a week if possible, but I can
assure you that my games on other days are just as well thought out but I just
didn't have time to type out the reasoning. I have received numerous
emails, which I do appreciate and for those who have asked the question, I am
sorry but I do not have a daily email list. This is a hobby and not a job for
me.
If I don't play a game, it's probably because I don't have a strong opinion
one way or another so if you ask me about a game I didn't post, I don't think my
opinion on that game is too valuable. In addition, I cannot assure that I will
be looking at everyone's comments in my thread on a timely basis so I apologize
in advance if I don't respond.
I wish everyone the best of luck and let's all help one another make money.
I also caution that April has been a mediocre month for me and I am probably
barely above break-even the past two Aprils. I am hoping to change that this
season.
