Umpire Alfonso Márquez (ranked 77th of 92) will be behind the plate for World Series Game 3. He's called 1 playoff game this postseason -- ALDS Game 3 of the Orioles Rangers series. His correct call rate was 92.5% -- exactly league average
He tends to be a hitter's ump. Career 20% k rate, career 9.1% walk rate. Career 9.12 rpg average.
What is interesting here, is that he's following game 2's Quinn Wolcott who has been rated as the most accurate Umpire in mlb history.
How does he affect today's pitchers?
Imo, don't expect either guy to nibble. If they do we may see some frustration. This was not the case for Merrill Kelly in game 2, where he lives on the edges, and having Wolcott was helpful to his style.
Just know, this is a very small part of the pitching game. The pitchers will still need to be sharp by their own merits. Batters will have to decide to be patient or to attack early.

so you're saying Pdaadt isnt going to get the 3 inch below strike zone he got his last 2 outings ?? Fire the umps and bring in the AI. it isnt fair for the hitters to have to figure out the "umps strike zone". this post season ive seen some balls that literally went over the white of the batter box and they called it a strike.

Good info. Pfaadt I think benefits more from this. HR's going to be at a premium in a closed roof Chase. OVER seems sensible with the way the Dbacks grab extra bases as well.

Welcome to why baseball has got to be the worst, by an insane margin, to bet on. Its no wonder they have to play it when all other sports are done for the season and then only have playoffs left when other sports start. No one would watch this garbage otherwise.

You literally created a thread talking about how something that should be 100% consistent is not even close. You have the most important part of the game decided by some random person behind the plate who constantly lets their emotions get in the way. They toss players because " I'm the ump and you don't talk back to me"

I never said it should be 100% consistent, I posted how it is.
And it is showing in the game, as Marquez just issued a walk on a strike out.
Kind of here to help the forum out with info that should help in wagering.

I didn't say you were making a case saying it was a 100% consistent. I'm saying something that SHOULD BE 100% CONSISTENT. Umps get pitches wrong on damn near every plate appearance and you can't even argue with them when they are wrong or god forbid he might get offended and kick a player out of a game and completely change the game because he can't handle his emotions.

This ump cost me over 4.5 SO. He really should have 6 SO’s. Baseball is shit because if stuff like this. I think they should just go AI behind the plate. Old men who can’t see are deciding these games.
