You're taking cards that they are supposed to receive I'm pretty sure. I've had eyes roll at me a few times and I always ask if I don't know what to do. Somebody ever yells at me at a table and we have big problem real fast.
I'm no expert on BJ but I do know how to behave around people.

If you are at a table and the table has a good run going, and someone takes a wrong hit or spilts the cards when they shouldn't, then you mess up the deck and your good run is over. Of course it effects the outcome of the game.

That is just plain wrong. When you dont play by the book house edge goes up. The "it will help you as many times as it hurts you" mantra is why casinos will always be the real winner. As much as casual players love to play by their "feelings", the numbers dont lie.

That's my point. Your so called "good run" is a RANDOM streak of luck which can end at any moment. The play by any person in the long run will not change the odds.

Why cant you understand. If you hit a 12 against a dealer 5 and bust then you are taking out a 10 that would bust the dealer. I dont know the numbers off the top of my head but the reason you stay is because the dealer is busting a higher percent of the time than you can make a 17 or better. It is random but the way you are thinking about it is incorrect. It effects the whole table when one person plays wrong.

So, why take the chance and end a good run early? They don't come around all that often. I have seen it happen way too many times. A guy takes a hit when he shouldn't have. The card that he took would have been mine, which would allow me to win the hand. Instead, I get a card and I bust. When you are playing for $100 per hand or more, people get pissed. That is why I typically will play in the high-roller room where you don't see people playing incorrectly as much as the $10 tables.

Uhhh - sorry pal - but you are completely wrong here.
And this BTW - this urban myth that is a total misunderstanding of probability - is the answer to your original question.
People believe in luck. People (like this poster) believe you are somehow reducing their odds of winning. People believe in streaks. People naturally forget all of the times this helps them, but only remember when it hurts them.
All of these things are why people yell at the BJ table, and generally why gamblers are losers.

Let me state this clearly:
YOUR EXPECTED VALUE ON A BLACKJACK TABLE IS THE SAME IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING AROUND YOU - THEY HAVE ZERO IMPACT ON YOUR EV.

Totally incorrect.

Here is one article I found on the subject - there are LITERALLY HUNDREDS that say the same exact thing.
I really find it fascinating that people get this wrong - and not just ordinary people - but people who are willing to bet on a game that they dont even understand the probability!! And then on top of it, people who post at a gamblign website.

I say this without being mean or pointing fingers or laughing at anyone.....
The lack of basic gambling understanding amongst gamblers is astounding. I used to think people were putting me on - I thought "how could people bet and not understand basics" - but after seeing it here for years I am no longer surprised, but still amazed.

Although I feel somewhat humbled by what you found, the link simplifies things way too much as to make me skeptical of its legistics.
What I mean is: In the example it has dealer with a 16, you with 13, 3rd base with 14 and says that there are 5 cards jq5k10, fine. I get how the odds dont change. But lets change it around a little bit. Lets say that you have 13, 3rd base has 12 and dealer has 14 and there is a 2-4-6-8-10 in the deck. Currently the dealer has a 40% chance to bust. Lets say the player takes an 8 now the dealer has a 25% chance to bust. Or Lets say instead the player takes a 6, now the dealer has a 50% chance to bust. Do you see why his play now effects you? Please correct me if im wrong. And also can we assume if the player hits a 12 then they will hit a 14? So then they take another card which is a 4 so now the dealer has a 66% chance to bust. this improves your odds to win but but not enough to compensate for the times when the player takes the 8 or 10 and dealer is only busting 25% of the time.

This statement says it all. Do you not understand the math? The articles written are backed by math and not theories of "Streaks" or "LUCK". This is going the way of arguing whether 2+2=4.

OK, I'm not going to do all the math but your math is definitely off. Your senerio #1 "dealer is 40% to bust" WRONG! Senerio #2 "dealer is 25% to bust" WRONG! Senerio #3 "dealer is 50% to bust" WRONG! Your math skills are not so good.

Ill just assume you are right and i am wrong but even still the percents have changed as a result of the other persons play. It doesnt matter, I dont care anymore, I concede you are right im the idiot donkey retard moron whatever you want

Im sorry if I come off like an asshole above. I talk very frankly and that often gets me labelled things that are not flattering or what I intended.
There is no problem in not knowing things. I dont know tons of things, but I try not to get involved with them unless I do - sometimes I get paralysis by analysis - but I am anal about information.
And that is why I am amazed at the lack of research people do before betting their hard earned money. Its not that Im right, or my way of doing things is right - its just the way I am and I dont mean to be a dick.
That being said (curb reference) - it is too tedious to go in to specific math examples taking one scenario at a time. The basic underlying principle is that your EV does not change whether you are alone at a table (assuming no card counting) or whether you have 5 other monkeys at your table. The EV remains the same, and since that cant change - it doesnt matter what everyone else does.
Just like in craps where every bet has a negative EV, there is no combination of wagers that can make it positive.
These are math principles that cannot be altered by anyone other than Koaj - he can do anything he wants.

I disagree and would love to continue this tomorrow when I have more time.
They have similated millions of hands coming up with the best strategy in each situation and sitting at a table when someone hits on a 12 when the dealer is showing a 6 is wrong for several reasons. One, you have to assume the dealer has a 10 underneath and secondly you have to assume that at a higher percentage than not, the next card coming out is a 10.
I have been playing blackjack since I was 19, so 15yrs and know that the winning or losing comes in streaks. Reason...no clue why but it does.
Anyways, I do believe someone elses move on a bj table is important and affects the outcome for the reasons stated above.
