so what do we have? Two bad defenses but they are bad in different ways. Navy cant stop the pass, and CMU is a pass heavy team and then we have CMU who cant stop the run and Navy is a run heavy team.
Navy offense is a about a 70/30 split. They run about 70% of the time, and most of those running plays are options and reverse style runs. This should work fairly well for them as they should be able to get some yardage.
However Navy is not as good as many people might think after that win vs Air Force in OT last week. Air Force had a lot of turn overs in the red zone, including one in OT which cost them the game.
CMU on the other hand passes about 70% of the time and vs this Navy defense it should work fairly well for them. Look for them to get ahead early and if they limit their mistakes and turnovers Navy will not have as easy of a time getting back into this game. And because Navy is a run style team they will have a harder time getting back into the game if they get down early. Also something to note is Navy is starting a freshman QB...he looked alright in the end of the air force game but we will see how he can handle himself here.
In my opinion CMU has played tougher opponents, and they have been able to score more. They just got back from a three game road trip so playing in front of their fans should be a little extra motivation. Also this time of year the good coaches know they need the wins when they can get them with the bowls coming up.
I would look for CMU to get a quick lead early and Navy never really being able to come back from that. If they have to abondon there running style of offense to try to get a few quick scores they are not going to do well against this CMU defense. Also Navy has a tendency to get long drives going and not come away with any points which might hurt if your planning on playing the over. One more thing is if it comes down to a field goal Navy has a terrible kicker.

If your leaning CMU id lock it in soon line is moving against CMU is -1 now I think. This line has been all over the place. But yes I think the running game of Navy will kill huge chunks of clock and I also think that CMU will try to slow the pace down a bit if they get a lead early to keep Navy offense off the field because that option running game takes a lot of energy out of the defense. SO CMU will want to keep their guys rested. I just dont think Navy will have enough fire power to beat this MAC team at home on national tv. Just dont see it.
