I always thought it to be the best teams to make the Playoffs. This isn't March Madness where you may have a potential high seed small conference upset. Size matters in football. This isn't a bs exhibition bowl where you don't actually have something to play for. Has the format always been this way what was the committee thinking? ND would destroy both of those teams. What was the logic behind it

Honestly? ND has skirted by all these years without being aligned to a conference, and this never having to play a conference championship. They have always been given the benefit of the doubt, especially pre season polls, yet it never works out for them. Yet every year they are allowed into the playoffs with a weak schedule and never playing an extra game. It finally caught up with them, frankly, on a year in which they have some talent. Can thank previous years ND teams for that. At least that’s how I see it

Also, I’ve seen this play out before in other sports. Don’t sleep on the smaller teams. When the entire world is backing one team, prob best to go the other way.

Why not do like March Madness. Let Nd, Van, Tulane and J Mad to play for the play-in for the last 2 spots. That should solve the problem???
just have a 16 team playoff like FCS. done and done.
JMU and Tulane got in because the CFP didnt anticipate the ACC being mostly terrible this year. CFP needs to alter the rules until they make it a 16 team playoff.
and Notre Dame didnt really deserve to be there. only two good teams they played, they lost to (TAMU and Miami). only decent team they beat was USC at home. hardly impressive. Miami beat Notre Dame h2h. ND needs to join a conference. it's really that easy.
Bama finished 2nd in the SEC which should be applauded. The team they fought for one of the last spots was Vanderbilt, who they beat SU. I dont think they are particularly great but I think they did just enough to grab a spot.
I'd rather see Vanderbilt in over Miami, but CFP was going to ensure ACC got a team in
