You both are right. CFP had stated that they wanted to put the 12 best teams in the playoffs. They also as stated did set certain rules. You could also include BYU, UTAH and Vanderbilt as being much more up to the task. In one game elimination there is always the chance that either team could win. NCAA March Madness is proof of this. Look at what Alabama did. No one had done that in the CFP.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but it was only ONE automatic bid required for the special Olympic conferences right? It was the highest ranked team from the scrub conference that got the auto bid. So how the hell did we land on TWO this year? JMU - Tulane, debate how you want. One gets in to to get smashed, the other is at the Idaho Potato bowl. So how did one of these teams get in over a Notre Dame, BYU, Utah?

yep…Right now that would be Indiana, Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas Tech….Those are the only teams that have a legitimate chance to win the NC!

That’s right. Thank you for the clarification. Well last year Boise shit themselves to the tune of not allowing the JV team to get a first round bye. Now after yesterday’s shitshow we will probably get further changes to never allow that to happen again.
I would have rather seen Duke over those teams. Mensah is one of the best QBs in the country. But yeah, they would have likely got walloped also.

It's not the committee's fault that the ACC sucked this year.

this is just the 2nd year of the CFP. It was going to take time and rules changes to get to a better place. If they are smart, they adjust with conference champs so that the G5 teams dont just get an auto bid because the ACC sucked yet again. And if the ACC is smart, they give some leeway so their BEST teams are in the conference championship game and not a team that backed their way in
Personally I'd rather see 16 teams and feed those last 2 G5 teams to the wolves against the top seeds, if applicable. Much like what we see with every other NCAA sport. A team like Boise last year would still be top 12 seed as well as they played last year, but a team like Tulane or JMU would be traveling to Indiana or Georgia and getting smoked.
Remember that last year, tOSU was not even close to a top seed and won it all. So going back to 4 teams isnt the right answer. But I think we need to see a few more competitive games like we got with tamu/Miami and Bama/OU.
Also, JMU fought hard and covered the spread. So good on them for staying in it even though they had 0 chance of winning
