David Ash out for BYU game with head injury
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas head coach Charlie Strong delivered a piece of news Monday morning that brought the entire Longhorn fanbase to its knees.
Junior quarterback David Ash will not play in Saturday's game against BYU due to an apparent concussion. Strong said Monday morning that Ash left the 38-7 victory over North Texas seemingly fine, but the training staff received a call in the middle of the night that Ash wasn't alright.
Strong said there was a hit Ash took to the head early in the game that likely triggered his symptoms, but at no point during the game did he show signs of a concussion. Ash missed ten full games and portions of two others in 2013 with head injuries.
Strong said he's not ruling Ash out for the year, but the plan against BYU is to get sophomore Tyrone Swoopes ready to play. Swoopes enters the week as the starter, but the chances of seeing true freshman Jerrod Heard have grown significantly with the news of Ash's injury.
LonghornHoosier Note - This is bad news for my Longhorns. We also lost Center Espinosa.
I think the spread will swing from Texas -3.5 to BYU -1 or a pick. Texas will focus on D and our running game. We have a freakish athlete in Tyrone Swoopes who will start, but he struggled during the spring. I still think Texas can cover, but against a disciplined team like BYU, you never know. This has gone from a strong Texas lean to probably a no play for me...
