I can’t think of a more hostile environment than the Shoe coming off a national championship… Coaching will be a big difference as will conditioning. Still to early to confirm starters, but my thoughts and lean are towards Ohio St and Ryan Days staff.
Best of luck, can’t wait to watch…take care!

Ahhh. Big10 game!!
Hard to call. Don't like Hartline as OC for Bucs, a step down IMO. Patricia may add a defensive wrinkle Texas hasn't seen.
That Under 50.5 does look best at this point.

The Buckeye offense is looking great, as they look and are year in and year out. They will put points on the board. As a die hard buckeye fan, I do not bet on OSU games, but I believe this will be a coin flip game. GO BUCKS!

looks like day lost pretty important parts of the staff.. now they're just stuck with him

@jwheels86
Truth… The good news is they’re not facing Michigan. :) Agree with you wheels, especially with Patricia taking over at defensive coordinator for Knowles, ouch. Offensively though Hartline is rock solid imo and a fine replacement. Valid considerations
I can’t say Texas has been immune from the loss of key coaches…. Tashard Choice, RB coach legend left for the NFL as did Coach TJ (Joseph to Saints) respectively. TJ had a helluva scheme rolling with UT secondary end of season. Props to Mr Gideon as well! New G Tech D Coordinator.
Glancing around seems like expectations are Natty or bust for these Horns… I get it, waaay long overdue. Another really important thing to keep an eye on as Wheels mentioned is the transition… this Texas team had 12 players selected in the 2025 draft That’s over half the starters.
To think there’s a coaching advantage on this UT side with a new QB, new everything really, and going on the road 2.75 hr flight without any game experience into Ohio State’s hostile environment… I happen to disagree. Just my 2 cents.
Keep in mind as well pressure is all on Texas…they’re Natty or bust. Buckeyes will play with the confidence of a returning Champion. Hey I’ve been wrong before, I could absolutely see the Buckeyes lay an egg here…and it’s way too early to commit a major play, but I think I have the right side for this particular matchup.

Teams that are ready don't feel pressure, just excitement and each year Sark plays a biggie well early
OSU won't feel pressure either with Natty in their pocket
Fun matchup

Sark does play early spots well… I really believe though that walking into Colombus, Ohio for your Team/QB’s first game of the season is going to be much more than just excitement. Unless your Michigan ha, you won’t fare well… Texas A&M, Clemson, UGA, LSU at night are the dens of doom that I add an extra pt plus to the standard 3.
I backed out the past 10 seasons:
Annnd Ohio State since 2016 has lost a whopping 4 times. 2017 to Oklahoma, 2021 to Oregon, and 2022/2024 to old blue Michigan
Horns could easily pull the upset, they absolutely could use it….Sark does this. Talent is possibly best in the country, in Austin I would shoot with Texas -4.5. I think the Horns will have a handful of meltdowns to the pressure and what Buckeye nation brings..not just excitement. This is 100% a very difficult road trip…as hard as it gets.
Texas has had a grudge and revenge bazooka on their shoulders since the 28-14 Jan 10th Cotton Bowl at the olde Lone Star State. Revenge is real. A clash of two Titans…..that home advantage is immense
can’t wait

Ohio State with Kevin Wilson as OC for his last two seasons of 2021-22; Offense avg 45.7 and 44.2 points a game. O/U were 17-8-1
Ohio State with Hartline as OC in 2023; Offense averaged 30.2 points a game. O/U were 3-10
Ohio State with Kelly as OC 2024; Offense averaged 35.7 points a game. O/U were 10-6

Gotta give the edge to the Horns at QB too, at least until the Buckeye kid proves he's up to the task.

It’ll be natural for Ohio St. to have a letdown or be over confident coming off their natty. Buckeyes aren’t 100% settled at QB and I think that is huge in this game. Early morning game as well. I think the Buckeyes will struggle to score. I haven’t fired on it yet but I like Texas plus the points.

Definitely a game to sit back and watch..Arch needs to show what he's got...seen Horns fail in this situation many times..Count me out
GL Train this year...Will be perusing your picks

This offensive line has no idea what’s about to hit them at the Shoe… in fact the entire coaching staff and this first game QB with the fancy name have no idea what’s coming… The home field advantage is like very few in the country.
The pride factor of BIG 10 recently blowing through the SEC is legitimate. There’s a reason they continue to finish #1…. Tides have shifted, the hate for the SEC far exceeds the hate for the BIG10. Sec arrogance doesn’t care…the Midwest absolutely does. SEC schedule is loaded with rivalries every game every stadium. Big 10 team like Penn st play 2 difficult games not 8 or more. This is an Ohio state Super Bowl on the schedule.
Can Texas get up for this first week matchup vs these rivalries later down the road @Fla, Red River Shootout, @UGA, Hogs, and Aggies ?
No way. Texas will lose this one and this #1 ranking just sprays gas on the fire…. Ryan Day yessir.
Texas will play much better and motivated with a discipline to that energy in conference play. Just simply a horrendous spot for this #1 Team, it’s Heisman Trophy leading QB, this offensive line and overall player losses across the board to the NFL Draft.
i think I got the right side here and will absolutely check back in to say I was incorrect! Buckeyes by 6

I can’t help but picture the north section of the horsehoe…Arch screaming at the top of his lungs and still not being heard. ZAP! OL false start. Zap another one with this young line and the raging noise that sounds like Anthrax met Slayer in a mosh pit..
ZAP, delay of game offense…. Horns baking up into that north end. Can’t wait for this one, absolutely two of the best heavyweights in the country.
