Just a curious question I've always had... why should overtime be included in bets?
Take yesterday's Miami/Virginia game. Those who took Miami and the over clearly had the wrong side... why should they be rewarded by a gift overtime, while those who correctly picked Virginia and the under be punished?
When spreads and totals are set, they are set with the mindset that the game does not go into overtime. So why should overtime be included in bets? I feel like whatever the score is at the end of regulation should determine whether a spread or total is graded as a win or loss.

You make your pick, team or total is for the game, ot is part of the game. Thats gambling. A second half play does not include ot as far as my book goes.

You are crazy. Overtime is part of the game, so it should be included in your bet. If you had the over you wouldn't be complaining and asking this question.

Had absolutely no money on MIA/UVA. Was just using it as an example.
My overall point is that disregarding OT gives a clearer indicator of the right and wrong side, and you should thus be rewarded as such.
I understand full game means full game. Still think the idea of needing OT to win your bet means you shouldn't win your bet at all.

OT is part of the game!!!!! If you were a seasoned vet like me you would be able to predict the games that are going to go into OT and wager accordingly...Good Luck Rookie!!!

I agree that it doesn't always seem "fair" in terms of totals, but you need to understand that your bet is on the game. Whether it be on a team or the total, the result is reflected in the final score of the game.

Seriously, this guy is retarded. O.T is part of the game isn't it?? You bet the GAME don't you??
Reading comprehension. You should try it. As I stated above, I understand the "full game means full game" mentality.
When it comes to gambling, I don't agree with it. I don't feel you should be rewarded with an extra 5 minutes if you have an over, and I don't feel like you should be rewarded with an extra 5 minutes if you have a favorite.
Essentially, I don't feel like you should be rewarded for making a bad pick. That's the way the system is set up... I don't necessarily agree with it. Just my opinion.

You can have an underdog that wins for you in overtime as well.
Gonna have to respectfully disagree with ya tone, you just have to take the nice breaks with the bad...take for instance the lasalle/st bonny's game a few days ago, i took the 2nd half over 79 and the way the 2 teams played that half had zero business going over, hell it took TWO overtimes for it to it to hit!! then fast forward to today i along with a large number of people here had georgia -1.5 and they crumble in ot....it happens

Its hard enough to just pick O/U's on a consistent basis (52%) and you are saying because you are a seasoned vet you can predict games that will go into O.T........There will be at least 1 game that goes into OT tonight are tomorrow. Tell me what game will go into OT... You can pick any 5 games you want. only 1 has to go into OT. Are you up for the challenge?

OT is simply part of the game whether you think it's fair or not. With that argument then in the Miami/Virginia game, wouldn't it be fair to pay all those who had Virgina plus the points since the game was tied in regulation. And that means Virginia covered, even though they ended up losing in OT. Can't have a fairness opinion for totals but ignore the effect on sides.
BTW, I was one that was helped by that OT for the over 122.5. Had pretty much counted that game as a loss when Virginia had the big lead with 2 mins or so left. But then later in the evening I got done in by the Ohio/Ball state under 138 game. Same situation. Ball state erases 9 point lead or so and ties the game at 65-65 on a missed FT by Ohio.

Think of it this way... the outcome of the game will either be 50% team A covers... or 50% team B covers... 50% game goes over... and 50% game goes under... regardless of OT or not.
As long as the line and totals are "accurate" and the book gets an even split (50/50) -OR- a lop-sided split (98/2) in terms of bets... they could care less what happens.
