another late start to the day for me.... ![]()
Terrific game, but the coaching in the final 20 seconds left a lot to be desired. Painter seems to be in the minority of coaches who likes to foul rather than defend against a three. Recall for example, how that crazy sequence turned out in that infamous regional final vs UVA when the Hoos went on to win it all. Now I’m not saying it’s the wrong approach. There’s arguments for either tactic. But why would you potentially try to extend the game by fouling up three with 19 seconds left? That’s ridiculous. Under 10 seconds, fine but boy it’s illlogical with that much time left to pull that strategy. Also, immediately afterwards, Texas fouls an 83 percent foul shooter? Why? Try for a turnover in the backcourt or at least force him to give up the ball and try to foul an inferior free throw shooter before you just foul that quickly with still 18 seconds, down one. The refs weren’t any better. And it culminated with that usual foul call officials like to make late in games to benefit the trailing team when all the defender was doing was standing still with his arms stationary above his head. Purdue should have still been up one with the ball instead of a tie game.
