Pittsburgh-Miami F over 144.5: Miami at home will look to speed things up and I think the Panthers -- now healthy and with some more scoring options -- will try to run a bit themselves. It's the first conference game so you never really know, but I'm projecting a 79-71 type game for the Canes. 0.5 units.

A line that jumped out at me for New Year's Eve is VCU -11 at home against St. Bonaventure. VCU 9-4 overall and St. Bonnie 11-2, though VCU has played a bit more challenging schedule. Bonnies only losses were at neutrals by 15 to UNC and in OT to Ohio. VCU lost close games to Utah St at a neutral, NC State on road and lost by 15 to Vandy at a neutral. They also lost 3 at home to New Mexico ... not terrible, but still a game you'd think they'd win. VCU relies heavily on the three-ball (37.7 per cent) and yes, more of those probably fall in the friendly confines of the Siegel Center. St. Bonnie also shoots the 3-ball well (36.9 per cent) while defending it better than the Rams. Just seems to me, on the surface anyway, that 11 points is a few too many in a conference matchup between two good teams. Gonna have to investigate a little deeper, let things marinate and see where the line goes in the next few hours. Obviously VCU is projected to battle St. Louis and Dayton for the title, but I think the Bonnies have a real chance to be in the top 4 or 5 in the standings too. Should be a real interesting conference this season when you also factor in G. Washington and G. Mason... and even Duquesne. Loyola and St. Joe's were projected to be up there too, but based on what we've seen so far, it appears unlikely. Anyway, just kinda spitballing here, feel free to chime in with any thoughts. I have always found this to be a very fascinating conference.
