After winning 4 gms in a row and gaining a tie of the AL Central, the Detroit Tigers have now lost 6 in a row including 3 straight to the Indians. The Tigers were in all 3 gms, losing on a walk off GS, by 1 in extra inn the next night and by 1 last night, when the Tribe scored 2 in the 8th to take the lead.
Verlander (2-3) takes the bump tonight against Bartolo Colon (2-1....the loss being in relief). Verlander is the type of pitcher who relishes this type of gm. A night gm at home, on national tv (espn) with all expectations to get his tm off the schnide. Verlander (3.64 era, 1.02 whip) has recieved very little run support this yr. The Tigers bats gave him 1 run/seattle, 2 run/oakland and 0 against the Rangers when he had a complete gm giving up 2 runs. That gm against Texas was when the Rangers were on fire out of the gates (4/11) and hamilton was playing. Verlander seems to be having a tough time getting out of the early innings, primarily the 1st. If he gets out of the 1st tonight w/ a low pitch count and 0 runs givin up, this could be a long night for the Yankee batters.
Some notes I have on Colon.....He is 2-1 on the yr, but his wins came against the White sox in his last outting (and we all know how they're playing lately) and Toronto. He has a nice 26/6 k/bb ratio but he faced Boston earlier in the yr when they were struggling mightly and the White Sox "while" they're struggling. He has 13 ks in his 2 starts, however against the free swinging Jays and swing and miss Sox. Here's my kicker for tonight....Colon faced the Tigers on 4/3 (only a month ago) in 4 innings of relief. The Tigers hit him up for 4 runs as Detroit finished off the yanks 10-7. I expect some regression from Mr. Colon tonight.
Not many chances to feel confident going against the Yankees...but I'll take my chances tonight

Agreed. Watched Detorit blow leads in all 3 games against my tribe, Benoit will not be available to pitch for Detroit so the Tigs should be OK if thye have to use the bullpen.
