Recap: GGG vs Canelo 1

Golovkin and Alvarez first got together on Sept. 16, 2017, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Triple G fought what many thought was the better fight over the course of 12 rounds, but it didn’t quite work out that way in the judges’ hands.

Two of three judges scored it pretty close: 115-113 for Golovkin and a 114-114 draw. But the third, Adalaide Byrd, scored it wildly in favor of Alvarez, 118-110. So the fight was a draw, and there was quickly clamor for a rematch.

Recap: GGG vs Canelo 2

Almost exactly a year later, on Sept. 15, 2017, Canelo vs GGG betting odds were again getting massive attention. Perhaps not surprisingly, the fight once again went all 12 rounds, and the outcome once again had some controversy surrounding it.

Two of three judges scored it 115-113 for Alvarez, and the third scored it a draw, so Alvarez won a majority decision.

How to read boxing odds

Most sportsbooks have only opened the one betting market on who will win the fight. With Alvarez being the clear favorite, his odds have the minus sign (-) in front of them at -300. This means that bettors would need to wager $300 in order to win $100. A Golovkin win would pay out much more, as he's the underdog at +250. This means that a $100 wager would profit $250.

The odds listed above are in American format, but can easily be converted to decimal or fractional format via our odds converter tool.
