LSU1. Be prepared for Alabama's blitz when it brings in extra defensive backs LSU can accomplish this by leaking a back out of the backfield on a flare or angle route, or by executing quick throws underneath (this would be a good way to take advantage of wide receiver Russell Shepard's run-after-catch ability). LSU's tale of the tapeHere are some of the formation and play-calling trends that emerged in studying the Tigers' offense and defense in their first game vs. Alabama. Offense Defense This could also be a good opportunity for the Tigers to create one-on-one opportunities for Rueben Randle, as the Bama D will have had to commit its additional defensive backs elsewhere. Moreover, in the first matchup, Randle was only matched up against Dre Kirkpatrick, the team's No. 1 cornerback, five times. That's because when LSU brought Randle in motion or otherwise moved him around, the Tide didn't switch, leaving Randle to be covered by Dee Milliner or DeQuan Menzie. Randle got open several times in the teams' first meeting -- the LSU QBs just either failed to anticipate the throw or didn't put the ball where it needed to be. Assuming the Tigers can once again get favorable matchups for Randle, they may look to go to him on a fade route or some other jump-ball opportunity -- especially when going up against the blitz. 2. Run the option on second and third downs Don't be surprised to see the option runs distributed more evenly among the downs this second time around. Third downs obviously have a heavier pass tendency than first or second down, but the Tigers could go to the option game more on second-down and third-and-short situations as a means of moving the chains, as opposed to just opening up a new set of downs with it. 3. Take advantage of Bama's D when it crowds the box It'll be interesting to see if the Tigers take more shots on early downs on Monday night or if they do what got them to this game, which is a more conservative power-running approach. But the opportunities will be there if and when they decide to take some chances. And as we mentioned in our first section on LSU's offense, there's a good chance that Randle could find himself in some favorable one-on-one matchups with Alabama's secondary. |

Neither offense was able to do much in the first meeting between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. A lot of that had to do with the superb defensive performances by both teams in the matchup, but the fact remains that there are ways in which each of these teams can better attack on the offensive end in Monday night's rematch with the national title on the line. We broke down the tape and logged every play of LSU's 9-6 overtime victory on Nov. 5, and identified some interesting trends and potential attack plans for both of these offenses. Here are three keys for each offense heading into the Allstate BCS National Championship Game. Alabama1. Keep working Richardson into the passing game I think 30 is the number Alabama is going to target for Richardson again -- at a minimum. The reason is clear: Of Alabama's 13 plays that went for 10 or more yards on Nov. 5, seven were produced by Richardson (four on runs, three on receptions). Bama's tale of the tapeHere are some of the formation and play-calling trends that emerged in studying the Crimson Tide's offense in their first game vs. LSU. • 7 plays in two-back sets (12 percent) Because LSU is so good against the run, Alabama is going to have to supplant some of Richardson's carries with catches. And the Tide's offensive coaches have to feel pretty good about their ability to get Richardson open; not only did he rack up 16 yards per catch in the first meeting, but he got loose on a couple of other plays where they just weren't able to get him the ball. Expect him to get free again on Monday night -- it will really just come down to whether or not AJ McCarron can make the necessary throws to him. 2. Finish drives However, if there's a silver lining here it's that much of the Tide's lack of production in this area of the field can be blamed on their own mistakes. All those negative plays left them in a lot of second- and third-and-long plays. Obviously, the LSU defense is really good, and when you get them in a confined area they're even better, so when you find yourself in those long down-and-distance situations as an offense, it makes it next to impossible to move the ball. The coaching staff will need to go back through their playbooks and eliminate plays in this part of the field that have a higher risk of resulting in negative yardage -- like reverses, for example, or slow-developing runs. And it comes back to Richardson here, as well. His touches declined significantly in the first matchup once Bama reached LSU's 30-yard line, and the Tide will need to keep feeding him the ball in that area of the field on Monday night. 3. Know when to take your shots You can bet that if we noticed this trend, LSU's defensive coaching staff did, as well. And as a result the Tigers could become overly focused on stopping the run on second down, possibly walking an extra guy up some of the time and crowding the box. So if there's a good opportunity for the Crimson Tide to take a shot downfield, this could be it, either utilizing a play-action fake to Richardson or sneaking wide receiver Marquis Maze out on a post when one of the safeties has cheated up. If the Tide have good self-awareness and identify that LSU has responded to this tendency of theirs (Alabama has been very run-heavy on second down all season long), second down could be the time for them to catch the Tigers off-guard with a big play. |

I had Nc St and had this marked as a loss. I don't blame you for suspecting something. 35 pts in 4th q by one team? C'mon.

Good luck Babooshki man. I am a small white dude and I used to do large amounts of work with Mexicans at the horse tracks in KY. If someone stiffs you, wait for them, mace them in face and take a tire iron to their knees. Leaves no marks, but the sentiment is conveyed. Do not get punked out. He is an ex-con, he won't do sht. If he touches a hair on your head he is going away for a long, long time. Go to his house, tell his parents. DO NOT BE AFRAID> 99% of people won't do sht. Believe me.
