The bet early only worked if you realized that the NCAAM game was a 1:30 am (EST) or 10:30 pm (PST) start. I didn't realize this until 10:35 pm (PST).

There is only one person responsible for a loss (and win) when picking a game and that is the person picking it. They can just have easily picked the other side before it started. Jinxes, KODs and all this other nonsense are just that. It makes no difference what Smoothd20 or anyone else says or posts - they don't control the pick nor the outcome.

Long time Streak Survivor player and forum lurker here. I hadn't looked at the main Survivor page in weeks. I saw the streak was at 22 only because of the story link on Covers main home page. After reading a most modest and humble interview story, I immediately went to the Survivor forums for fellow players', spammers, haters, and hopefully the streaker's comments. To be honest, I was more surprised to see Brackson13 posting not only his own comments but then also his reasons/breakdowns/thoughts for picking who he did each day.
I got out of the daily sports betting game years ago and now enjoy wagering only during the one or two annual Vegas trips I take (1st & 2nd round March Madness weekend ftw!). Streak Survivor and Ultimate Race are my picking fixes when at home and I've been fortunate enough to win a couple hats this year but nothing more. Handicapping or as I call it "sports predicting" is no exact science. The worst performing team can cover any spread any day - not to mention win outright. It happens all the time. To that end and for that reason, this streak has instantly become of legend on this site - and who knows how much further it will go, should the streak continue and win the big one (with the internet and social media visibility, would other news, sports, or gambling outlets pick the story up?)? I can't say enough for it or what I've come to read and learn about the person behind the streak. Then there's the fact that not only has Brackson13 made his own decision not to hedge, but to publicly state as much, as well as his reasons why he hasn't which shows a level of humility rarely seen on this site, not to mention in the gambling world itself. I can't imagine what it might feel like to go to bed these next nights not only with the accomplishment he's made but the chance and choice(s) that belie him as he contemplates his next picking decision. I wish him and his newly formed legion nothing but the best of luck and correct picks and will delight not only in watching for the results of my own picks but for Brackson's too as he continues to amaze and defy the odds. The page views on this thread alone are reaching legendary status and that in the period of just one week! BOL

Surprised noone has mentioned what happened to me (though I didn't scour all of this thread). I've had 9+ in a row twice (but never reached 13). Both times, Covers.com sent an email re: prize distribution. Each time, their email wound up filtered to my junk email/spam folder.
The first time, I didn't realize that it was there until long after the confirmation window had passed. Fortunately after the second 9+ streak, I checked the junk email folder and saw the Covers.com's email there and was able to reply as required. I received a hat within a month. |

The funny thing here is that many of the replies try to defend or side with the smoker because he got "narced out" by a hotel guest instead of the hotel finding out about it on their own. Smokers, when you break non-smoking rules and get caught, the only fault is your own. Businesses and other public places aren't secretly raising no smoking signs behind your back or trying to get you if you do smoke - they tell you before you even think of smoking. You choose to break the rules, then you assume the risk and liability of the punishment for doing so. A place like a non-smoking hotel alerts you when you book your room (online), when you check in, and when you go into your room - if not on the elevator and in other public places at the hotel on your way to your room. Pointing the finger at the narc, security, manager or whomever when you get busted is just a way of trying to defer blame and not accept your own responsibility.
Fact: cigarette smoke leaves residue behind whether smokers see, smell, feel or care to admit it. Smokers: go get lung xrays and tell me different - or better yet, get them after 30 or 40 years of smoking, if your lungs hold out that long. The residue is nasty and affects everyone, some more others, some less. But nasty as it is, smokers still enjoy it or accept it as a side effect to their addiction. Here's a silly analogy but one nonetheless. Say you're a cigarette smoker and the guy in the room next to you or even six rooms down enjoys burning paper bundles, plant leaves and wood inside his room instead of tobacco because he likes the smell and taste of that in the air. That smoke also soils the air and everything inside the room. You walk down the hall and even though you smell it, would you just let it go "because he paid for the room"? And would you confront him about it or tell security because you don't know what mental state the guy is in in the first place (especially to be burning that stuff)? Oh btw, cigarettes are paper, plants and wood. So the analogy is not that far of a stretch. Asking security or the manager to do something about a smoker is the best possible solution for the OP and anyone else facing this situation. It insures anonimity and eliminates having to face down someone who is nonconformist in the first place. Besides - who knows who is behind the door in the room the smoker is in? This thread emphasizes a particular lack of respect for rules and highlights those people that choose to disobey them, enforce them, and penalize for breaking them. Spin it any way you will, if the smoker was not in the wrong in the first place, this thread and discussion would never have occured. |
