The Texas Rangers’ offense has gone quiet during its five-game losing streak, with 10 runs plated in that span — four of which came on Tuesday night. They managed just six runs in three games at the hitter-friendly Coors Field before getting shut out by the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night.

Texas woke up a bit on Tuesday night with four runs, but the Rangers couldn’t overcome the six-run second inning by the Guardians.

The Rangers have plenty of big bats that we could target tonight against Cleveland, but we’re looking at utilityman Ezequiel Duran. The 24-year-old Dominican is batting .299 in 29 games this season, including an impressive .438 in 12 May appearances.

Duran’s odds of getting a hit are juiced up a bit at -175, which makes sense given his hot streak. He’s recorded a hit in nine of 12 May appearances and 16 of 29 games this season. However, keying in on the type of hit offers bettors value.

Of his 23 hits this season, only two have been for extra bases, including one on Opening Day. That’s right, 21 of Duran’s 23 hits have been singles thus far. We’re getting odds around even money — or slightly plus money depending on the book — for him to hit a single tonight against Cleveland.

Guardians slugger Josh Naylor has been on a tear recently and narrowly missed out on being our best bet tonight. He’s 10-for-35 in his last 10 games with five home runs and two doubles. Naylor is also 5-for-12 with one double and one home run in career appearances against Rangers starter Jon Gray.

Cleveland boasts the fifth-best strikeout rate at 7.53 per game, including 5.0 per game in their last three contests. Gray has been very hit or miss this season, with seven-plus strikeouts in five starts and four or fewer in his other four outings.
