Best WNBA Player Props Today: Expect Outstanding Effort From Ogunbowale

Arike Ogunbowale is the lone star left standing on the Dallas Wings, and our WNBA betting picks expect her to shoulder the burden with gusto on Saturday night vs. the Chicago Sky.

The first Saturday of the new WNBA season brings a tasty quadruple-header that gives us an early look at several playoff contenders.

Both the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are in action as heavy favorites, plus four other teams are looking for their first win of the year, including Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Even though some of the matchups look lopsided, the WNBA props market is booming, especially with a national TV audience for the first two games of the day. Read on for my three top WNBA picks for Saturday, May 18.

Today's best WNBA player props bets

Prop bet #1: Ogunbowale heats up

The Dallas Wings are a team on the rise that I expect to take another step forward after their 2023 playoff experience. They’ve got a proven bucket-getter to lead the charge in Arike Ogunbowale.

Ogunbowale is going to be a solo act for at least the next six weeks as co-star Satou Sabally was already ruled out until later in the summer as she recovers from shoulder surgery. Additionally, Natasha Howard broke her foot in the season opener against the Chicago Sky.

That leaves Ogunbowale with a huge scoring and playmaking burden, and her props are worth a long look given how much of the offense is going to flow through the Dallas guard.

I’m focusing on her points prop tonight and jumping on the Over. Ogunbowale hit the ground running in Dallas’ first game, scoring 25 points in the win over the Sky. I was especially encouraged by her 23 field goal attempts, including 2-for-6 from downtown. That’s elite volume.

The Wings take on the re-tooling Sky again today, and I see Ogunbowale as the standout performer on the way to a big scoring effort.

Arike Ogunbowale prop: Over 21.5 points (-115 at bet365)

Prop bet #2: Can’t stop Kelsey

The Las Vegas Aces had to dig deep to see off the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, but Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young provided just enough scoring to back up a monster game from A’Ja Wilson. With Chelsea Gray questionable to return this afternoon against the Los Angeles Sparks, I’m looking to the rest of the Las Vegas backcourt to shine again.

That leads me to the Plum 3-pointers prop. She went 3-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mercury and, while the efficiency was nothing special, the double-digit attempts is a promising sign.

Plum drilled 95 triples at a 39% clip in 2023 and I expect her to benefit from all the attention that Wilson draws in the paint, particularly if the Aces’ sharpshooter is on the court for 38 minutes like she was on Tuesday.

The Sparks gave up 92 points in their season opener as the Atlanta Dream shot 47% from 3-point range, and I see Plum getting enough good looks here to hit the Over on this prop.

Kelsey Plum prop: Over 2.5 made 3s (+100 at bet365)

Prop bet #3: Taurasi takes a back seat

The Phoenix Mercury’s busy offseason and Brittney Griner’s toe injury add up to a new-look offense, and there are a lot of mouths to feed here with Kahleah Copper, Natasha Cloud, and Rebecca Allen all capable scorers alongside the ageless Diana Taurasi.

That wasn’t an issue in the season opener as the Mercury pushed the defending champs to the limit, led by 23 points from Taurasi. But I’m predicting a different story tonight against the Atlanta Dream.

Taurasi finished without a single assist in Tuesday’s loss, with Cloud handling more of the playmaking, but I expect the Dream to shut down the open looks for the Phoenix veteran and nudge her towards more of a facilitator role.

At this point in her career, a lot of Taurasi’s scoring comes from 3-point range, so there are fewer easy points at the rim or the free-throw line.

With Rhyne Howard and Tina Charles shining in Atlanta’s first outing of the season, the Dream clamped down on the Los Angeles Sparks’ scorers in a 92-81 victory.

I expect a repeat performance from Atlanta here, and that makes the Under on the Taurasi points prop an appealing option.

Diana Taurasi prop: Under 16.5 points (-105 at bet365)
