Hodges caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brewer with 8:44 left to give Virginia Tech a 28-21 lead. Joey Slye missed a 46-yard field goal with 3:06 left that would have extended Virginia Tech’s lead to 10, but Riley, who had replaced Kendall Fuller two plays earlier after Fuller suffered cramps, ran back the interception to seal the win.
