Baylor 70, Northwestern State 6: Sophomore Seth Russell set school records with five touchdowns and 381 yards in the first half filling in for Heisman hopeful Bryce Petty as the host Bears rolled the Demons.

With Petty watching from the sidelines after cracking two vertebrae in his back in last week's win over Southern Methodist, Russell finished 16-of-25 for 438 yards but fell one touchdown shy of tying the school record. KD Cannon had six catches for 223 yards and three touchdowns for Baylor (2-0), which piled up 720 yards of total offense.

Zach Adkins went 7-of-17 for 112 yards and one interception for Northwestern State (0-2). Ed Eagan had two catches for 51 yards and Chris Moore added two field goals.

Russell led scoring drives on the Bears' first three possessions, throwing touchdown passes of 50 and 81 yards to Cannon and running in from 3 yards out. He added a 61-yard touchdown to Jay Lee and a 57-yarder to Davion Hall as the Bears built a 49-3 halftime advantage.

Johnny Jefferson scored on a short run and Silas Nacita added two rushing scores in the fourth with most of the Bears' starters on the bench. Baylor, which shut out SMU last week, limited the Demons to 202 yards and 11 first downs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ten penalties for 91 yards were the only negatives on the night for Baylor. … The Bears also played without injured starting wideouts Antwan Goodley and Levi Norwood. ... Jefferson finished with 107 yards on 20 carries.
