Louisiana Tech 48, Louisiana-Lafayette 20:
Cody Sokol passed for a pair of touchdowns to earn his first four-year college victory as the visiting Bulldogs surprised the two-touchdown favorite Ragin’ Cajuns.

Kenneth Dixon rushed for 184 yards - including a 99-yard touchdown - on 12 carries for Louisiana Tech. Sokol, a fifth-year senior who sat on the bench for two years at Iowa after transferring from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College, finished 22-of-33 for 295 yards to outshine Louisiana-Lafayette's Terrance Broadway.

The game was the renewal of a rivalry between two in-state schools that hadn’t played in a decade. Although the rivalry may be getting a new start, it was an old result as the Bulldogs (1-1) of Conference USA won their seventh in a row over the Ragin' Cajuns (1-1) of the Sun Belt Conference.

Louisiana Tech opened the scoring on Dixon's run with 4:25 left in the first quarter after a punt pinned the Bulldogs at their 1. Louisiana-Lafayette answered behind the running of Broadway, who had 47 yards on a drive capped with a 6-yard touchdown run by running back Alonzo Harris on the first play of the second period.

The Bulldogs took control with a 78-yard scoring pass from Sokol to Sterling Griffin on the second play of the second half for a 24-7 lead. Louisiana Tech's Xavier Woods intercepted Broadway and returned it 46 yards - crisscrossing the width of the field - for a touchdown to put the Bulldogs ahead 31-7.
