Georgia Southern 83, Savannah State 9: Ean Days rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns and Brandan Thomas gained 117 yards and a score on just seven carries as the host Eagles routed the in-state Tigers.
Matt Breida added two rushing scores and Favian Upshaw ran for one touchdown and passed for another for Georgia Southern (1-1), which rolled up 695 total yards. Kentrellis Showers caught three passes for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Eagles, who fell one point shy of the school record set against Johnson C. Smith in 2004.
Tino Smith passed for 110 yards and a touchdown and added a team-high 27 rushing yards for Savannah State (0-2), which had only 42 total yards and 14 rushing yards at halftime. Cantrell Frazier hauled in three passes, including a 31-yard touchdown, for the Tigers.
The Tigers didn't cross the midfield stripe on offense until early in the third quarter, when they drove to the Georgia Southern 3 before missing a 25-yard field goal. Days went 80 yards on the next play to make it 62-0.
The Eagles scored touchdowns on all but one drive -- a one-play possession before the end of the first half -- and eight different players scored rushing touchdowns for Georgia Southern. It was 76-0 before John Barron connected on a 39-yard field goal for Savannah State with 9:07 remaining.
