Stanford 45, UC Davis 0: Kevin Hogan tossed three touchdown passes as Stanford made quick work of visiting UC Davis in the season opener for both teams.

Hogan had an early day after leading the No. 11 Cardinal to a 38-0 halftime lead. Hogan went 12-of-16 for 204 yards before giving way to backup Evan Crower in the second half.

Preseason All-American Ty Montgomery returned a punt 60 yards for Stanford’s first score. On the Cardinal's first drive, Hogan capped a 12-play, 67-yard drive by scoring on a quarterback keeper from the 1-yard line.

Montgomery, the team’s leading receiver last season, finished with five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown - all in the first half. In his first career start at running back, Kelsey Young had 37 yards on five carries and backup Barry Sanders ran for 43 yards on seven carries.

The defense held UC Davis to six first downs and 115 yards of total offense. Aggies quarterback London Lacy was 12-for-22 for 54 yards and two interceptions and was sacked four times.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Freshman Christian McCaffrey, who’s father Ed was a Stanford legend and three-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, scored the first time he touched the ball as a Cardinal. McCaffrey reeled in a pass from Hogan and split the safeties for a 52-yard score. ... K Jordan Williamson broke the Stanford career scoring mark with an extra point in the second quarter, besting the 289 points scored by kicker Eric Abrams (1992-95). … The early blowout allowed Stanford to play a lot of personnel, especially on offense with 11 players getting carries and a dozen having a reception.
