Freshman quarterback Lamar Jackson turned in the best performance of his young career to lead Louisville to a 45-3 victory over Samford on Saturday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

Jackson completed 14 of 21 passes for 206 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Cardinals (1-3). He also rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries despite sitting out most of the fourth quarter after engineering Louisville's final touchdown drive.

Senior Michael Eubank completed 7 of 9 passes for 51 yards with one interception for Samford (2-2). Freshman Devlin Hodges came on to connect on 10 of 20 passes for 79 yards with two interceptions for the Bulldogs.

Louisville amassed 585 yards of total offense and held Samford to 205. The Cardinals rushed for 311 yards on 45 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt.

Jackson scored on runs of 14 and 13 yards in the first six minutes to help Louisville race out to a 21-0 lead. The Cardinals led 31-3 at halftime.

Jackson threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver James Quick with 10:20 remaining in the third quarter. Running back L.J. Scott added a 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
