Oops, make that 110 yards on 20 carries, not 22.

I am so far undecided on this game (at least the side), but do see a couple of factors that favor the Bears. The first is that the Packers are #31 in the league in yards per rush allowed (4.7). Chicago could choose to grind it out with Forte and Taylor and control the clock, not coincidentally the opposite of what they showed in the meaningless (for them) season finale. The Bears did rush for 110 yards on just 22 carries (5.5 avg.) in that game with Forte averaging 6.1. No matter how hot Rodgers may be, he can't do any damage from the bench. The 2nd factor is the Chicago return game as they are #1 in KO returns and #2 in punt returns. Hester can put up 7 real quick.

3* Troy/MTSU Under (63.5) - Looks like “over” on the surface as Troy has some strong “over” trends (11-2 L13, 11-2 away) and MTSU returns explosive QB Dasher. However a closer look shows that most of those Troy games involved BCS teams, and while both teams have a good offense, these are easily the best 2 defenses in the SBC. The L5 in this series have gone under the total, the L6 have totaled 54<, and the L3 at Murfreesboro 48, 41, and 47. The Blue Raiders have scored just 14.2 PPG in L6 vs. Troy (never over 20) and at home have held L11 FBS opponents to 27< and 19 of L22 SBC opponents to 24< (17.8 avg.). Both teams have good return men but Troy punter Goggans is 2 time All-SBC and MTSU is #21 in net punting (39.3). Troy 24, MTSU 23. Season to date 30-23-3 (+14.3). |

I don't care about their best, I care about getting a decent system for a decent price. I didn't say it was as awesome a sytem as you will find, I said it's as awesome a DEAL as you will find. Besides a sound bar is what I want. I don't want speakers all over the place and I don't want to see my TV when I'm not watching it (all in an armoire). Electronics are not furniture nor are they decorative items. I'm a 49 year old single man and I don't want my living room to look like a dorm. My house is very stylish and it gets me laid. Bose makes GREAT speakers. All the experts say so, all the people I know in the music industry (many) say so, and any audiophile need only listen. If you think you know better than all these people, more power to you. |

If you read my plays you know I don't always win, but always do my research. I recently bought an HDTV and researched it for a couple of months checking all the experts (Cosumer Reports, CNet, etc.). Here's what I found out. 1. Plasmas are better than LCDs, especially for watching sports and gaming, because they're faster. You pay $300 extra to get a 120hz LCD when the slowest plasma is 480hz and most now have 600hz subfields. Plasmas have same bright colors, deeper blacks, and are cheaper because they're cheaper to make. 2. There's no visible difference between 720p and 1080p until you get larger than 42". As the screen gets bigger the lines of resolution get farther apart so you need more. Plus the only current use for 1080p is for Bluray. There are no 1080p broadcasts except for 1 movie per month on Dish Network on an experimental basis. It will be a long time before satellite has a lot of 1080p because they literally have to launch new satellites to do it, and cable will never have 1080p unless they find some new way to compress the signal. 3. Panasonic makes the best plasmas (unless you pay 4x as much for Pioneer), and Sony and LG make the best LCDs. 4. Buy online. The prices are cheaper, in most states you don't pay tax, and they deliver for free. I ordered a 42" Panasonic plasma with all the bells and whistles from 6th Avenue Electronics for $595 w/no tax and free shipping and I'm happy with it. You can also buy the same gold tip HDMI cables that cost $100+ at stores for $10 online.

I've been doing a lot of number crunching in an effort to figure out who would get my Heisman vote if I had one. Obviously the Heisman has become as much of a team award (maybe more) than an individual award. I'm still working on the RBs, all purpose players, and defensive players, but Ryan Mallet clearly had the best year of any QB in CFB. Here are the numbers of the 6 top QBs acording to my studies (listed alphabetically). 1. Jimmy Claussen- 161.4 rating, 310 YPG, 28/4 TD/Int, -4 yards/1 TD rush, 79.8 average rank of pass "D" faced 2. Andy Daulton- 159.6, 207, 22/5, 522/3, 54.5 3. Ryan Mallet- 157.8, 285, 29/7, -35/2, 38.6 4. Colt McCoy- 147.5, 270, 27/12, 348/3, 77.3 5. Kellen Moore- 167.4, 277, 39/3, -4/1, 55.0 6. Tim Tebow- 155.6, 186, 18/5, 859/13, 46.2 Claussen can't be considered at all as he didn't face a single top 40 pass "D", only 1 in the top 52 (Purdue), and 6 ranked 94 or lower. Although McCoy's opponents avg. rank was 77.3, you must remember many Big 12 teams rank low because of all the good passing teams in the leaugue. Still Colt faced no pass "D" ranked higher than 22, 9 ranked 72 or lower, and 5 ranked 93 or lower. Moore's opponents avg. is skewed because several opponents rank high in pass "D" only because they are so bad against the run that opponents don't pass. These include Miami, O. (101 rush/26 pass), Fresno (111/32), B. Green (103/34), Hawaii (107/36), and NMSU (115/31). Mallet meanwhile faced 8 of the top 33 in pass "D" and 4 of the top 12. Although his team was just 7-5 they did lead the SEC in scoring (37.7) despite playing the #13 schedule (Sagarin) including road games at Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida. Those are some gaudy numbers he put up under those circumstances. Not his fault his defense sucked, though they did improve greatly over the course of the year. With 8 starters returning on each side of the ball and most of the tough games at home, the Hogs will be a monster next year. In any event there's no doubt in my mind that at least among QBs, Mallet deserves the Heisman. I will have a later thread discussing the RBs, all-purpose players, and defensive players after I finish my research.

All Star- I like Chip Kelly, but they are changing the schemes on both offense and defense and it will take time to adjust. New OC Helfrich didn't even join the team until spring practice was over. Regardless of who is coaching, the overall talent and experience level are both down for Oregon. Only one of the 4 new OL was ranked in the top 180 out of high school. That's not the type of recruits they've had in the past. I feel they have 5 likely losses (at Boise, UCLA, Arizona, home vs. USC and Cal) and only 2 sure wins (home vs. WSU and Purdue). All their other games could go either way. Notre Dame is one of the 10 or 15 most TALENTED teams in the country and has a favorable schedule. Of course that doesn't mean they won't lose to USC by 14. As for UCLA, they are loaded with talent and had a ton of injuries last year. I like their "D", which was #2 in the Pac 10 (302 YPG) but appeared to suck on the scoreboard because their QBs kept throwing TDs to the other team. Plus teams with a lot of starters back (16) almost always take a jump up in the 2nd season under a new head coach, as they are comfortable with the schemes.

As seems to be the case with everyone, you give Oregon a bizzarely high ranking. Does losing 13 starters including 4 OL (3 All-Pac 10), plus a long time head coach (and top recruits with him) mean nothing to you? They should be about 35 on the list (under 7.5 wins a decent bet). Notre Dame should definitely be in the top 15, maybe the top 10. UCLA is a top 25 team (over 6.5 wins a GREAT bet). Otherwise looks good and nice touch with the school colors.

I'd wait on laying that big number with Texas. Severe weather is expected due to hurricane.

A 2 loss team is playing the best football in the country right now, but it's not USC. It's Georgia. Trouncing pretender ASU hardly as impressive as beating Florida by 12, sticking 45 points on Auburn defense, or holding Kentucky offense to 13.
