The truth. You know it's bad, when your 3rd string QB goes out, your "star" QB comes in, everyone on the team hangs their head and slumps and thinks "now we're in trouble".
Tom Cable deserves to keep his job, He knows it and the players know it. If Al Davis fires him, you can bet that his replacement won't be as good. Any coach smart enough to be better than Cable is smart enough not to take the job. |

Line movement means nothing to us. The books are not trying to get into our heads, they're just trying to balance the action.

1. Cable explained that he put Russell in the game because a 3rd QB would've been too confusing for the rest of the offense. I don't agree with his logic, but that means Frye will start next week now that they have a week to practice.
2. Almost everything said about Russell applies to an earlier Raider QB, Kerry Collins. Just like Collins, Russell will be bounced from 2 or 3 teams. Then he'll settle down as a backup QB, grow up, focus, lose weight, and work hard. Then one day he'll get a chance to start. 3. Russell will never re-negotiate his contract. He knows that he can retire on $32M. So what if he never plays again? Right now, I don't think he wants to play anyway. 4. The word senile is vague. Davis is legally competent. The NFL commissioner paid a friendly visit to see if Davis could have a coherent conversation. They did. There is no legal recourse for the NFL or the partners. Balls have nothing to do with it. |

Can someone explain why the Houston Texans are a 1 point dog to the Jacksonville Jaguars? I just don't see it.

The problem with the leaderboard is that it's ranked by units won, not by winning percentage. lalito is the NFL leader with a 113-60-2 record (65%). I'm ranked 1938 with a 7-2 record (78%). Would you rather tail someone who's winning 65% or someone who's winning 78%? (And no, I did not just have one lucky weekend.) |

The real tragedy was forcing Jimmy to work with Brent Musberger. What a twit. Jim Carey is the only actor capable of capturing empty-headed essence of Musberger.
Remember the time that Musberger started to nag Jimmy on the air about going on a diet? Just before CBS cut to a commercial, Jimmy tore into Musberger. Jimmy thought they were on a commercial break. Not just yet. He said "Listen..."., and we never heard the rest of what he had to say, but it must have been good, because Musberger never brought up the subject again. You could tell by the tone of that one word that Jimmy was not happy. |

"Sports Betting 101" by Arne K. Lang is a classic for good reason. You won't find a better introduction. The cover price is about $20, but you can find it for less at Amazon.com.
Lang covers the math of betting. For example, with a 10% vigorish you need a 52.38% winning average to break even. He also covers money management subjects such as the Kelly Criterion. He does not cover picking winners, but since you're already 120-86-5 ATS (58%) this year, you don't really need a lot of help in that area, do you? |

The stats favor Houston +9, but I wouldn't touch this game. Ordinarily, I would estimate the line at around Houston +7, but:
1) Unlike most teams, the receiving corps is the heart of the Houston team. 2) TE Owen Daniels was in the pro-bowl last season, and he's out. 3) WR Andre Johnson is not 100%; he's probable. 4) The Houston receiving corps is/was strong, but there is almost no depth. This is enough to make me walk away from this bet. |

If you look at the hashmark, you'll see that the camera is about 30 degrees behind the ball. So even if the nose of the ball was even with the marker, you would still see daylight between the marker and the ball.

About the Eagles... I strongly recommend that you look at the highlights of their last game against the Raiders before betting on them. The Eagles offensive line was already stretched thin. Then they lost Jason Peters early in the game, and their line just fell apart. I counted the number of seconds that it took the Raiders to sack McNabb. On 2 occasions, I did not get to "one". On 2 other occasions, it took longer, because McNabb was running backward.
At least this time, the Eagles have a week to prepare for this disaster, but Jason Peters is questionable for the next game. I know that Washington is a bad team, but I don't think that Albert Haynesworth will be any easier to handle than Richard Seymour. If Peters doesn't return soon, the Eagles will be at a tipping point, much like Seattle was last year when they lost all of their wide receivers. |
