well key i have said this entire offseason that the Pirates win the N.L. Central. And with this trade i believe the Reds will win the N.L. Central. This deal to me says that the Pirates don't want to win. Because if you wanted to win you wouldn't trade for Burnett. I'd rather give Cole or Taillon a shot if they have no interest in competing. Withn this trade i now have the Pirates 5th in the N.L. Central

Well, I know how disappointed you are packers, sorry about that. The Pirates organization is so bad they don't have any business managing a franchise nor do they have any concept of how to make it a contender. Fifth is a bit too far in my opinion but I am sincere about a fight with the Cubs for fourth. It looks to me like the Brewers, Cardinals and Reds all have a shot in that division, but all three have their own demons to overcome. Brewers still have the staff, as do the Cardinals, but both have to overcome the loss of a slugger. The Reds have to overcome Dusty Bakers management, which may be harder than the tasks the Brewers and Cardinals face. If I honestly had to make a futures bet today I would ride the pedigree and bloodline with the Cardinals but I am glad I'm not ready to pull that trigger yet.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

well key i'm not a pirates fan which if you read anything i wrote this offseason you'd think i was. I never said they'd be the 98 Yankees but for crying out loud! How much better are they with Burnett. I think most will be suprised by the fall of the Cardinals without Pujols. So i'll go with the reds. Well the pirates i guess are more interesting now with Burnett. I'm just stunned at that

A.J. Burnett
Pirates management for trading for him
Really are you serious?
Burnett is a great pickup. I think he will excel with being out of NY. He still has great stuff and his peripherals all indicate he pitched a lot better than the results. His FIP and XFIP are also substantially better than his ERA. His K/9, BB/9 and H/9 are and were all in line with his career stats, nothing dropped or changed to indicate he lost his stuff. The only thing that increased was his HR rate and that seems to be an anomaly and a product of Yankee Stadium.
Also it would be beyond stupid to even consider Taillon or Cole. You would ruin their careers and most likely cause a major injury. Taillon has 1 year of professional ball under his belt and pitched 90 innings or so. His arm strength and conditioning and nowhere close to where it needs to be to even consider having him at the ML level. He hasn't even pitched above A ball yet and does not have a great feel for his secondary pitches since Pittsburgh limited the # of secondary pitches he through last year as they worked on his fastball command instead. If everything goes very he will get a look for the 2013 season and even then he most likely starts in the minors to keep his clock from starting so soon and to avoid super 2 status.
Cole looked great in the Arizona fall league but it is beyond stupid to start his service clock to start the season. If he is pitching great midway through the year and the Pirates are in the race then you might see him called up. Otherwise its utterly useless to have him in your starting rotation at the beginning of the season.

pero its called an opinion. Those are my opinions my point is if you're going to suck than suck with young players. I know it'd be stupid to Put cole or Taillon in the starting 5 but in my opinion its stupid to put Burnett on the Pirates. Since you quoted some sabermetrcs to me. Let me give you the Bill James projections for A.J. Burnett
9-10 4.32 ERA
173 IP
75 BB 160 K
And sir in your avatar i see you're an orioles fan. So what do you know about pitching? What pitchers do you have in Baltimore? BAZINGA!!!

jpero; Honestly, after the garbage you posted all last winter about the Orioles, where do you get off calling anyone else's concepts or ideas stupid? Apply your SABRmetrics all you want, and form your own opinions, but you certainly have no room to step on toes around here. Tell me again how "Matusz is far and away the best pitcher on the Orioles staff" or are you trying to forget that? Tell me again how Mark Reynolds would fare so much better in Baltimore's "hitters park" than Arizona's "pitchers park". Since when is Chase Field a pitchers park? I was just tired of arguing with you last year so I let that one slide, but I have never forgotten it. Show a little respect for others man, you yourself are not in the "rocket scientist" class.

About 10,000 of my posts are PROBABLY in back and fourths with him.
He's good people...but he's just very strong headed when it comes to his Orioles. One of my friends is incredibly similar to him. He's a die hard Mets fan and has incredible knowledge of baseball and he tried to convince me that the Mets are going to finish 3rd with 82-85 wins next season...ahead of the Braves and Nationals. I couldn't do any more than just give my reason as to why that WONT happen but it's hard to convince someone of something that they don't want to hear.

If you are going to use Matusz as an example then atleast be accurate.
He had an injury last year and was rushed back. When he returned they screwed with his mechanics and made an already short strider shorten his stride even more. He was pissed off at the Orioles and their pitching coaches for changing something he has been doing since he was 12 and had been successful at every level of competition doing. He lost focus and last year was a throw away.
He is a very good pitcher as he has shown in 2 different stints during 2009 and 2010. He has worked very hard this offseason to get in better shape so he is better conditioned. He will be fine now that they got rid of Connors who fucked every single Orioles pitcher over last year with screwing with their mechanics; after Kranitz had all the pitchers doing well after having worked with them the previous year. Its no coincidence Connor left halfway through the season ( he was pushed out by higher ups for what he did to all the young pitchers).
Reynolds did do exactly what I said he would do. He batted in the low .200s and hit HRs. He had his worst season defensively of his career which was the negative. If he had been a DH last year he would have had a OWar of about 3.
And Citifield is a pitchers park. They even moved the OF fences in and still HRs were at a premium.

And I believe those projections were done for playing in the AL East for the Yankees.
Rule of thumb is subtract 0.50 from the ERA for going to the NL from the AL East and add 0.50 if going from the NL to the AL East
And it is stupid of you to say put Taillon in the rotation and if they dont the franchise doesnt care about winning. Saying stupid is the nicest way of putting it in that scenario.

well pero did you know when bill james makes his projections he doesn't use the division, team or ballpark? Or are you just going to make an ass out of yourself because we don't believe in your sabermetrics? You're an entitled to your opinion if you want A.J. Burnett fine i'd rather have a vasectomy from a dentist

Actually he does do projections based on their current team etc. There are league variables that come into play for projections. A pitcher in the NL pitches to 1 less batter than pitchers in the AL. If you extrapolate that over the course of a year that will impact pitching stats.
In fact last year a player was traded late and Bill James redid his projections for that player.
He does a spreadsheet that is already out and cost $10. Closer to opening day he will release a new spreadsheet.

Just reread this cause I didnt understand where Citifield came from.
I never said Chase was a pitcher friendly park. I said Petco and San Fran were pitching friendly. I also showed how some of the best pitchers in baseball pitch in the NL West.
Lone and behold Reynolds moves to the AL East, the most difficult league in baseball, and has his lowest strikeout total since his rookie year, raises his average by about 30 points, and hits close to 40 HR while having an OPS+119 (2nd highest of his career)
