Recap
Daniel Alfredsson scored in the third round of a shootout to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the host Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Jason Spezza and Kyle Turris scored and Craig Anderson made 33 saves for the Senators, who have won four straight and are 8-0-1 over their last nine games.
After Anderson stopped Max Pacioretty on the Canadiens’ third attempt, Alfredsson came on for Ottawa. The captain skated down the slot and wristed a shot between Carey Price’s pads to secure the win.
Montreal had tied it with 39 seconds left in regulation. With an extra skater on, Pacioretty streaked in from the right side and grabbed a rebound, knocking it into an open net to force overtime.
Tomas Plekanec’s high-sticking penalty gave Ottawa the power play with 6:38 left in the third period. The Senators needed just 20 seconds to make Montreal pay for its mistake, as Spezza wristed his 19th goal from the point to make it 2-1.
Erik Karlsson recorded his 38th assist on the tally.
The Canadiens have dropped three straight and 10 of its last 13.
