J.J. McDermott tossed four touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, and SMU survived a fourth-quarter collapse to hold on to upset No. 20 TCU, 40-33, on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.

SMU (4-1, 2-0 Conference USA) led 27-10 early in the fourth quarter before Horned Frogs quarterback Casey Pachall led a furious comeback. Pachall connected with Luke Shivers on a 4-yard touchdown to tie the game at 33-all with just over a minute remaining in regulation and force overtime.

But on the Mustangs’ second play in overtime, McDermott found Jeremy Johnson for a 19-yard score to give SMU a 40-33 lead. SMU's defense then stopped TCU on four consecutive plays to win the game and give the Mustangs’ their first victory in Fort Worth since 1993.

The loss snapped a school-record 22-game home winning streak for the Horned Frogs (3-2, 1-0 Mountain West), whose last loss at Amon G. Carter Stadium came against Utah on Oct. 18, 2007.

SMU won the “Battle for the Iron Skillet” for the first time since 2005 and beat TCU for just the second time in the last 12 meetings.

The Horned Frogs came into the game ranked 85th nationally in total defense, and their struggles continued against the Mustangs, particularly on third down. Time and time again, McDermott found open receivers on third-and-long, including on two first-quarter touchdowns to receivers Darius Johnson and Terrance Wilkerson to give SMU an early 14-0 lead.

Darius Johnson finished with 12 receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs.
