Recap

Blue Jays 6, Angels 5:
Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion delivered run-scoring singles in the ninth as visiting Toronto rallied to defeat Los Angeles and avert a four-game sweep.

The Blue Jays were one out away from losing when Bautista stroked a game-tying single to left field off Dane De La Rosa. Encarnacion followed with a go-ahead single to left to score Rajai Davis, who had three hits and three stolen bases.

Brett Cecil (5-1) recorded the final two outs of the eighth and Casey Janssen worked the ninth for his 19th save in 21 opportunities. Ernesto Frieri (0-4) took the loss as the Angels’ bullpen spoiled a strong outing by C.J. Wilson, who was charged with four runs (three earned) and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Mike Trout homered in the first off Mark Buehrle before Toronto took the lead on run-scoring singles by Davis and Bautista in the third. Mark Trumbo smacked a three-run homer in the fourth and Chris Iannetta doubled home a run later in the inning to give the Angels a 5-2 lead.

The Blue Jays tallied twice in the eighth, one coming on a throwing error by Los Angeles third baseman Chris Nelson and the other on an infield single by Maicer Izturis. Frieri extinguished that threat by retiring Colby Rasmus on a pop-up but was removed after two of the first three hitters in the ninth reached base.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Buehrle allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings after not allowing a run in 16 innings over his previous two starts. … Trout reached base four times on two hits and two walks. … Toronto placed RHP Steve Delabar (shoulder) on the disabled list and plans to activate LHP J.A. Happ prior to Monday’s game at Seattle.
