Today is another day of Confederations Cup matches. Yes I'm back for more. Yes I'm ready to get my ass kicked. Yes that means I'm going to have a smaller card then usual. Yes it's juicy because I've decided I'm going to "play it safe". Here are the picks:
SPAIN ML 1.66 (3 UNITS) IRAQ ML 1.44 (2 UNITS) PARLAY: SPAIN ML/IRAQ ML 2.41 (1 UNIT)
This way the ass kicking is reduced greatly. I had to ask myself was the juice worth the squeeze. The answer is yes. Tail or fail my friends.

Spain may not need the points from this game in the same way that South Africa do but don't expect them to just lay down and let the beloved host nation advance. South Africa need a draw to progress but I just can't see it happening. Regardless of the team that Spain puts out, they are a strong powerful squad. Rumour has it Del Bosque won't change around the starting 11 that much and marca.com has reported the team starting today is as follows: Reina, Arbeloa, Puyol, Albiol and Pique; Busquets, Fabregas, Xavi and Riera; Torres and Villa. Pretty strong team if you ask me? A team capable of beating the best the world has to offer let alone South Africa. Another interesting aspect of this game that will be in the minds of the players is that Spain is on the verge of setting a new world record for most consecutive International wins. They will play for the win. They want their names in the history books. Who wouldn't?
Spain didn't look the most fearful team in the world against Iraq but saying that I expect them to learn from their mistakes and put it right against South Africa. South Africa will play similarly to how Iraq played and put 10 men behind the ball and wait for the rare counter attack. Del Bosque will be weary of this and will adjust his tactics accordingly. He's not the manager of the best team in the world for nothing you know! I don't rate South Africa very highly. They look bad going forward and if Spain show up today and keep the majority of possesion I can see them winning this game by at least 1 or 2.
Iraq ML:
I thought I had Iraq worked out before the Spain match but these group of lads shocked but really impressed me. Rock solid at the back and at times they looked threatening on the attack. Spain couldn't break them down for large periods in the game and that can only spell one thing for minnows New Zealand; bye bye Kiwis. New Zealand have looked shocking in this tournament. Spain and South Africa both beating them with ease. Their bags are packed and they are already out of this tournament. This match means nothing to them but Iraq still have a chance of qualifying. They will be looking to score goals against a leaky New Zealand backline to reduce the goal difference between them and South Africa and hope that Spain do them a favour. I think the Iraqis are in luck and I expect them to win this comfortably.

Coley, your thoughts on the total for the SA/Spain game? The total is set at 2.5
Too close to call but I would be leaning under. South Africa will want to keep it tight at the back in search of that draw and Spain may only get 1 or 2. I don't see Spain conceding in this game. They have only conceded 2 goals in their last 15 matchs. Under would be the wise bet as I think Spain will win but not score 3. 2-0 is my prediction for this game.

I myself posted that NZ have a weak squad when a lot of people jumped on that +1.5 vs. SA.
But: Does Iraq really deserves a line like this (about 1.40)?? At least one should question that a bit. To play with 8-9 men behind the ball and defend your goal is one think. But tonight they have to make the game and act offensively. That is kind of another story. It could be a close affair...

GL Coley. I like your Iraq pick, but just for some reason, i keep doubting myself on spain ML. The line now is at +94, which looks too tempting. I keep asking myself is the book know something we dont? No doubt everyone will take spain at that price.
I will gamble today on that game and take a Draw @ +205.
I belive spain may take a lead on the first half, then rest some of their starter. So I will also pick Spain -0 0.5 for the first half. GL with your plays.

tnt: That's been bothering me all day. Something in my mind whether it be my gut feeling or the line movement, something is telling me this game is destined for a draw. Hopefully Spain come through and win because I have full confidence in any team they put out.
bracks: Havn't looked much into it but the Under does look good! GL with your picks mate!

remember that South Africa only needs a point to advance so that is why the line is so tempting..
I can't see spain winning today only cause a draw will insure S. Africa a spot in the semi-finals, and with the empty stadiums i wouldn't be surprised if fifa had a trick up their sleeves..
