yeah I guess you're right. Just really confuses the hell out of me. And Kablerle has really shown had bad he looks on a decent team. He looks good on the leafs, but just god awful on the Bruins. I can't believe the Leafers got a first rounder for him. Pathetic!
But ya, Bruins can't hit, They dont have the toughness they once did! Get over it people!

i completely disagree. This is exactly what I am talking about? Other then the 7 foot tree stump who is really playing physical? Lucic? Please, he looks like he is hurt out there. The most physical team without a doubt has been Vancouver. Torres, Bieksa, Kesler. These guys are finishing their hits. The Bruins are not playing physical, and other then that stupid 7 foot Giant who cost them goals last game, they are not tough!!
They are also going to lose the series, but thats beyond the point.

We are on the other side on this one justadam but that's what makes the forum fun.
Forget the 70's nicname that is media stuff and nothing more. With that said you would be hard pressed to find a single player on that roster not willing to drop the gloves as I have even seen Krejci fight before and yes that is team toughness. Not one single player on that team hides ever.
Against Montreal and Tampa a lot of Bostons hitting and tougher antics are negated A) Because both treams are very fast skating teams making throwing hits and putting yourself out of position a very dangerous thing to do and you will almost certainly pay for doing it. B) Taking penalties against either Montreal and Tampa is also deadly due to their very potent powerplays.
As for the Canucks they are both very fast and very hard hitting to go along with their abundance of skill which gives them the trifecta. However when after the less skilled Torres took that run at highly skilled Seabrook he should have had the guts to fight Scott and not been a coward and declined and hid from it as he did a few times following it. He had a few offers and opportunities in a couple of blowout games to answer that bell and did not. The Canucks also employ the biggest loudmouth, dirty playing coward in the league in Maxim Lapierre. This guy is only still alive because as Clowe said he has always been a coward and refuses to fight anyone even after delivering one of his dirty hits and/or after his constant chirping that goes with that retarded grin he constantly wears on his face. Once in a blue moon he is forced into fighting some lightweight and is pounded right through the ice by whomever he opposes. I was very dissappointed to see the Canucks pick up that little dirtbag. At least guys like Avery, Carcillo or whoever will back up their antics by dropping the mitts. Lapierre does those things to a larger extent and then hides like a pure coward. If he gets to touch the Cup, I may just vomit. So I best get ready I guess.
I would say Boston has the most team toughness out of the 4 teams left but Vancouver in a whole is very tough too. Either way it is not going to win Boston a cup or the series against Tampa. They will have to win it without using that as they did against Montreal. I actually think Boston would look better against Vancouver than against Tampa due to matchups..My two cents...

Boston is overrated as a physical team. In the modern era, outhitting opponents is more effective than useless fighting. Here, Vancouver is clearly the most physical team in the playoffs.

Vancouver takes the body incredibly but hitting is not the topic here. He asked about the Big Bad Bruins nicname. They were never called the Big Bad Bruins because of their bodychecking skill. It was for team toughness and their rugged demeanor.
Maybe justadam meant bodychecking but then that is for another thread not this one.
I do agree with your assessement of what is more effective in the modern era however certain players can still be intimidated and forced into vanishing acts when challenged physically.

You're right Polar - that's what makes the Forum fun! With regards to whether I was referring to the nickname and or the physicality that they have been playing with in the playoffs - i would say a little bit of both. I guess I was frustrated cuz I had seen people do write-ups referring to how the bruins will 'beat up' on their opponents. I agree with you that they do have 'team toughness' however I do not think they are the toughest team right now. As for the Torres hit, that is what makes Torres great - especially come playoff time. IN the regular season, I would agree with you, he should have dropped the mits and thrown down. However, in the playoffs - you make that hit - and you skate away. That's what playoffs is all about - letting your temper go only so far - and then controlling yourself at the same time. Thats what Torres has been and continues to be so effective.
