The Atlanta Falcons will conduct a second head coaching interview with Bill Belichick over the weekend, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Belichick will meet with the Falcons' brass after he spoke one-on-one with owner Arthur Blank on Monday, Rapoport adds. At the time of the initial meeting, reports indicated a deal wasn't imminent, but the sides had mutual interest.
Atlanta is the only team with a vacancy currently pursuing the former New England Patriots legend. The Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans are all looking for a new coach.
Belichick and New England mutually parted ways after 24 seasons and six Super Bowl titles, with the AFC East club quickly naming Jerod Mayo as its new coach. The 71-year-old finished his Patriots tenure with a 266-121 regular-season record and a 30-12 postseason mark.
The Falcons' job became available after the club fired Arthur Smith following his third straight 7-10 finish.
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan are among the other reported candidates for Atlanta's top job.

I agree. I think he could very well end up in ATL.
But I really think the best fit for him would be LAC.
They have a great QB and a decent offense. They are weak on defense, which is his specialty. If he could shore up their defense, I think they could very easily contend right away. He is also used to the AFC.
ATL already has a decent defense but need a lot of work on offense and a not-so-sure QB.
He wants to win right away -- I question if he can do that in ATL.

This does make a lot of sense matchup wise and resource wise for him. But then you have to consider the owner he would be working with....and since Spanos is one of the worst, Dan Snyder lite, I would be surprised Belicheck would make that move.
Bill also prefers not to have to play Andy Reid and Mahomes twice per year. Reid has always been a thorn in Bill's side from and X's and O's perspective.
Bill said he wanted to go to an "underachieving team". Chargers scream that but Falcons have talent across the board, with the exception of QB of course. I'm guessing he'd bring in a vet like Cousins or someone. With how bad the NFC South is he should be able to get 7-9 wins over next two seasons to pass Shula.

I agree he will go to the weakest division. But by default. KC and Mahomes may have peaked. But that is a good point. But they matchup with KC well and he can fix that defense.
Good point about the owner though.
I think Payton is not a factor as much, I think he is overrated.
But good point about the owner in LAC. But I guess it does not matter since ATL is the only choice.
I just think it would be the best fit for him in LAC because they are just about there.

The only thing that I could see happening in the nfc south next year, is that the run of shittyness of that division overall my come to an end.
It's been 2 abysmal years for all 4 teams, and as we know, what comes around goes around.
The Panthers are certainly not the team to pull off a 180, but shit they should certainly get a little bit better?
I kind of like what I saw out of Derrick Carr late in the year. Just a little too late. They have a good foundation there, but a crappy head coach. I know that you know your stuff, especially the qb position. Can he roll over some momentum into next year?
And let's see how the Bucs do vs Detroit this weekend. The Lions secondary is vulnerable, Baker could surprise.

15 more wins away from breaking Shula's record. Could get that in 2 seasons , having an extra regular season game should speed it up. And wouldn't you know it, they play the AFC East in 2025. Might break it against his old club or maybe against Miami if he can field a good team lol

Bills no dummy he’s going to do the same thing he did in the AFC East.. he’s going to own that division right away it’s a weak division with run game and defense.. saints-projected to be $72 million over the projected 2024 salary cap.. Carolina-in trouble… Tampabay-barely won the division by the hair on there chin…
imagine if they pick up one of the veteran quarterbacks like a Justin fields.. you have drake london Bijan Robinson Kyle pitts being used correctly with a two tight end set along with Jonnu smith which has experience with Bill.. I’m sure he can shore up that defense somehow.. NFC south better watch out Bill is coming for that record and division..

Just a little FYI... Belichick had a losing record 5 years as HC with Cleveland. Losing Record last 4 years as HC with New England, and had a losing record at New England in games Brady didn't play in. The bottom line, in his career as a HC without Brady at QB he has a losing record. Is he really that good as a HC or did Brady carry him? Just saying.

I have thought (like others in this thread) that LAC would be the best fit for Bill because most of the pieces are already in place. They really need a "tough minded", disciplinary coach, and Bill fits that. But is it enough to win not only a tough division that includes KC, but a Super Bowl ?
I can only imagine that Bill is thinking not only at the weak NFC South division, but "the path of least resistance" to another Super Bowl bid. The AFC is stacked w/ a number of good/great "young" QBs that make this more difficult ; Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert. You would be hard pressed to find this many on the NFC side..
I think we will find out that Bill wanted to stay on the East Coast first and foremost... An interest in an NFC team, w/ a friendly owner are the remaining pieces, and ATL fits the "bill" (pun intended). Because why else would one consider ATL ? Lol.
And then there's the "wildcard" in all this discussion. Maybe Bill is just an East Coast guy that has no desire to consider a West Coast team at all. Lol..

I saw this a week or so ago on ESPN. It just goes to show you that this is a QB-dominated league. If you've got a good one, you've got "a chance" to succeed. Without one, you have "no chance."
Bill must have "an ace" up his sleeve in bringing in an established QB if he takes the ATL job.

Sorry, meant to delete the last part.. A little redundant.
